Found this big oil on canvas today at a Normandy flea-market. It was very cheap & is signed Jean (?) François on the bottom left. Whoever it’s by, I love its ominous tone!

Its vaguely Impressionist style & the age of the frame (& bars to stretch the canvas) suggests it’s pre-1950 but I just don’t know. I found a Belgian artist Jean François (1903-1977) but I’m not sure the styles are similar.

Anyone know the artist, or can give any other comments/help?

Boosts welcome!

Remember when the internet was full of silly pointless wonderful weirdnesses made by actual humans for no other reason than because it was a fun thing to share with the world? Turns out, much to my happy surprise, that many of them still exist! Please share your fave nostalgia nonsense! My suggestions in thread #SmallCheeringThings

Earliest known photograph of a snowman, ca. 1854, taken by Mary Dillwyn (most likely in Wales).

More than forty images of the ephemeral snowman, frozen eternally in the photograph.

@arnfinnp Grått nytt hår!

Whenever the police murder a citizen, they dig up anything bad in the victim's past, then the media spreads this information around as part of an effort to convince the public that the victim somehow deserved to be killed by police because they were "dangerous" or something.

Oh, and let's not forget that Brian Thompson killed tens of thousands of human beings per year for money. We should definitely remind people of that.
