The tax system in Canada is such an over complicated mess, it’s annoying the heck out of me!

All I want is an electric car that makes the Jetsons noise when driving at low speed, is that too much to ask for?

Question to Americans: If you visit Canada, get quoted a price at a store or venue, and then your response is “is that in Canadian dollars?”, when/why would it ever not be in Canadian dollars? It’s just a weird question to ask when in a foreign country… I get this question OFTEN.

Regular people get punished with a fine and they feel it financially (and the fine could be a week’s worth of pay, for example). Ultra-wealthy people should have time based penalties (e.g. community service) because a monetary fine means nothing to them but time is valuable to everyone.
I’m not sure why #hydrogen fuel cells haven’t been more encouraged, no they’re not as efficient as electric batteries, but the mining required for #battery #electric isn’t great and the more #greenenergy being used to create useable hydrogen the less it really matters to the environment that it’s not as efficient.
There are companies selling these vehicles right now, which shows the technology is there, so what am I missing?
Is it just the media I watch or is there a general lack of optimism for the future now compared to the not *too* distant past. How did we get here? How do we get back to utopian sci-fi artwork and people building things to better the world and that being celebrated, and people looking forward to whatever is next?

I think that online services that host content that is supposed to be better moderated (e.g. #socialmedia or #LLMs that provide inappropriate output) should have more pressure put on them. If the response is “oh we have too much content to regulate”, sounds like the product isn’t ready and should be fixed/modified, or more moderating staff should be hired. If the LLM output is outputting harmful or illegal information, the product isn’t ready and financial or legal pressure should be applied.

The housing market seems to be ridiculous in a lot of the western world, seemingly due to using houses as a commodity. What law changed to make this happen? Can we change it back?
What if we were to limit the amount of rental properties that could be owned by an individual or business, and put a significant tax on empty houses?

I’d also be open to age restrictions on social media but I don’t think we have a good private way of proving age online yet.

What if big algorithmic social media companies were regulated like alcohol and tobacco?
They can keep their content, but they need to remove addictive elements:
- No infinite scrolling. Content needs to be paginated.
- No suggested content based on what they know about you. They can show what they show everyone when not logged on (e.g. what’s popular), or who you’re already following. Suggesting who to follow based on who you currently follow is fine.
