“Yo no tomo la guitarra por conseguir un aplauso. Yo canto la diferencia que hay de lo cierto a lo falso. De lo contrario no canto.”

“I do not play the guitar for applause. I sing the difference that there is between what is true and what is false. Otherwise I do not sing.”

Fairplayer is sort of like a federated Bandcamp...

"Fairplayer plays music from a decentralized ecosystem. Artists and communities publish their music on their own websites and link them to a player where the user can listen to them all."

@matt_birchler @hrefna Our professor in Graphic Design once told us »The last 3% of the work are another 100% of time — but that’s what differentiates professionals from amateurs«. I think this is the same in every »crafting profession«.

The Freight (and Salvage), Berkeley, California still seems to have shows where the musician can request that people wear a mask. The Freight also live-streams some shows.

And in the UK, Live to Your Living Room live-streams shows.

Nice write-up in The Sick Times, of people making a success of covid-careful music shows.

"Her solution was to rent out a club herself in order to set her own standards ...
"... people get it. Many people thanked me and sent me messages like, ‘Thank you, I’m chronically ill. That’s really nice to think of me.’”"

“When I organized my first show … I had no idea how well it would do, but we actually sold out pretty fast!”

These artists are making concerts safer with COVID-19 precautions - The Sick Times

While most of the music industry has “moved on,” COVID-conscious performers have been working to prevent their shows from being superspreaders.

The Sick Times - Chronicling the Long Covid crisis

I was just reminded that it's #BandcampFriday!

Vexingly, I've had bother with my music computer (an old Mac) and haven't yet found time & headspace to solve that or hook up an alternative.

On the up side, I have been chipping away at ye olde bass practice in odd moments, and I reckon I could probably do a pretty good take now of that song I was talking about a while back, give or take a tricky bit in the middle.

Meanwhile... list of existing ones for browsing!

Okay gonna do a little briefing thread about some of my songs! I'll start with... Love to the younger me One of my own faves. A good one for when you're looking back over mistakes & ups & downs, & you want to do different in the future, but not by being mean to yourself. https://single-bass.bandcamp.com/track/love-to-the-younger-me #songs #mistakes #compassion

@hpod16

Hello from a songwriter bass player in England!

If you're looking to *buy* digital music and the artist isn't on Bandcamp, I highly recommend #qobuz.

You do not need to be subscribed to their streaming service to buy music from them!

They have a wide selection of music and offer both "CD quality" and high-bit rate versions of most music. You can download via a web browser or with their downloader app that make downloading in bulk easier. You can download in both lossless and lossy formats.

No need to give Apple (or Amazon) my money now.

@fstateaudio The core idea endlessly pushed by the industry was simple:

1 pirated file = 1 lost sale

But empirical research does not support this equation.
A large share of illegal downloads concern works that would not have been purchased anyway (price, availability, simple curiosity).
Piracy often acts as sampling: people discover, test, and later buy (concert tickets, merchandise, physical editions, future releases).
In short: piracy mostly competes with marketing, not with creation itself.
