I’m a gay nerdy tech guy living with my husband Daniel (@datasaurus) in Seattle, WA.

I enjoy partner #acrobatics, #lifting, #running, throwing #pottery, #baking, and reading #SFF.

I'm the defacto lead dev and a sysadmin at Distributed Proofreaders (pgdp.net), the largest contributor of public domain ebooks to Project Gutenberg.

I post about random tech stuff, queer stuff, books, and CW'd post-workout flex pics.

My goal today is to be ok with not doing something "productive" or feeling like I "should" be doing something else.

Cats are distinctly less cute when being around them makes your eyes water, your nose run and you start to sneeze, and eventually you start to wheeze and reach for your inhaler.

Let's just say "joy" is not the emotion they evoke in me.

I swear half the people I've muted are those posting cat pictures without tagging them for my filters to catch.

To those who do tag them: thank you!

It was *packed* this morning at the gym. If I'm going on a Saturday I clearly need to get there at or before 8a. At least the people there were working out and not merely sitting on their phones.

This is a new-to-me problem since generally I run with friends on Saturdays but we're running tomorrow instead.

I love that Washington state also supports a warm line as well, for situations that aren’t a crisis but are hard: (877) 500-9276 or https://crisisconnections.org/programs/warm-line/

My experience is a lot of folks don’t want to call what they’re feeling “a crisis”, even though friends of mine who work on crisis lines basically say “if you’re thinking of calling us at all, we want you to call us.”

Anyhow, I can see why digging up numbers like that while feeling horrid is HARD, and a single three-digit number like 988 is easier.

Metro Matters

I'm re-learning optimal public transit seating strategies:

Remembering that the next stop after I board a lot of people will get on so maybe take the seat next to the known entity rather than one of the two empty seats and roll the die.

Also smiling kindly to people boarding who might be good seatmates to project "I'd be a perfectly safe & acceptable person to sit next to" vibes.

Cranky shoulder is cranky but still got a good chest & back workout in and feeling good about it and my body today!

Just finished Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell and it is *excellent*. It's a fantasy story, and one might even consider it a queer love story, that at its core is the question "what does it mean to be a monster?". It's unlike anything I've read in the past in a very good way.

CW that it contains elements of familial abuse that resolve in a satisfying way.
