My research explores the intersection of Public History, Byzantine Archaeology & Numismatics, and Digital Humanities for the public presentation of medieval Eastern Roman coins. I like coins! Oh...I blog...well, try to.

Some really good news.
A new university will be built in Arviat, Nunavut, on the western shores of Hudson’s Bay, by 2030. It will be by and for Inuit peoples and all to learn the culture and language of the North and for people in the North to obtain post-secondary education in their language.

Like many in the last couple of days, I've deleted my academia.edu account in the light of their new terms regarding rights over personal information (the "irrevocable" nature of their claim seems at odds with deleting the account, but as I've not accepted the new terms I trust I've dodged that one). In any case, all my stuff is freely available on my website or university page for anyone who wants it, as well as via hcommons.org.
Who is using Obsidian.md as a pedagogical tool in their classroom or online, and how are you implementing it? I am using it for my async digital history course, where students will establish a vault as a repository for their research and publish via Mixa plugin. My objective is to get students to focus on process as Digital Public History, something I promote in my dissertation at https://publish.obsidian.md/roguenotes/00+Welcome/01+Rogue+History+Notes
Tell me how you are using Obsidian.md for your research and teaching goals.

PS: Lots to hate here. But suppose the model spreads to other industries. (Yes, this is sci-fi for now. But let your imagination run free.) Imagine that academic #publishers used this model to set #APCs. What would AI tools infer from your institutional affiliation (about available resources), first name (about gender), surname (about ethnicity), submitted manuscript (about guesstimated quality), and past publications (about specialization, reputation, impact)? What odd variables would it factor in, such as the number of Trump-banned words (for political protection) or the number of citations to that journal (for #JIF)? How would it use all this information? Would it lower the #APC for you, to bring you in, or raise it, to price you out?

For airlines or journals, would there be any reason to stick with the model if it didn't raise net revenues?

Delta moves toward eliminating set prices in favor of AI that determines how much you personally will pay for a ticket

The airline touted a partnership with an AI-enabled revenue system as a step on the road to fully personalized ticket pricing, part of its goal to raise profit margins long-term.

Last week I was in Athens for the International Conference on Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in #Archaeology (CAA, see @CAA_int). Under the auspices of the @CAA_SSLA special interest group Martin Hinz and I had organized a session on computational interfaces for archaeological research software. The idea was to explore the potential of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs). Despite the nerdy topic we got 5 interesting talks: (1/7)
Question: Should I start writing an article for my dissertation online and in an open-access platform, i.e., the OA notebook I created, so all can see what slog it is to write a dissertation? Would the journals publish it after completion? Open-access peer-review as one writes? Process as Digital Public History! Anyone?
