Finally! after hours of observing its behaviour I manage to photograph a Kingfisher with a fish. Going to Connaught Water was bit of an afterthought today, but so glad I did!

The Cormorant is probably my least favourite bird. However, when up close and in the right light there is clearly a lot going on in its plumage - and look at that eye!

Went to Walthamstow Wetlands for a bit of birding and had a great time. The high light of the day was this adorable Little Grebe. This is the first time have ever spotted one, and I think I may be in love!

Another encounter with our local female Kingfisher - on a day when we nearly lost her to a Sparrowhawk attack! I was observing her when suddenly she dashed of. At the same time there was a cacophony of alarm calls from other birds. Split second later a Sparrowhawk swept through the spot where the Kingfisher had been perched. Although that situation had the potential for an incredible wildlife photo I am glad she made it away safely!

I was particularly pleased to see this lovely Greenfinch on the birdfeeder today. Their numbers have seen a serious decline partly due to the disease Trichomonosis. Trichomonosis is one of the reasons the birdfeeder is cleaned every time it is refilled.

For 2023 I have decided to take a bit more interest in birds I have not previously given much attention to. So, here is a 'study' of a Magpie, a bird I usually pretty much ignore. I love the blues which really come out in direct sunlight. Amongst the most intelligent of all animals, perhaps I do need to spend some more time on them!
