Acorn Woodpecker is surprised - vexed, even! - that you didn’t know about their polygynandrous breeding collectives, wherein several adult males and several adult females collectively share the work of raising the young. This particular A.W. P.B.C. is inside a telephone pole. #AcornWoodpecker #Woodpecker #Polygynandry #photography #birds #birders #BirdWatching #BirdWatchers #California #LosAngeles #BirdPhoto #GriffithPark #DailyBird #BirdsOfPixelfed #BirdADay #DailyBird #BirdOfTheDay #LARiver #LosAngelesRiver #BirdsOfMastodon #cute #NaturePhotos #LAWildlife #Polygamy #Polygynandry
My gateway to bird photography: in 2021 a pair of Cooper’s Hawks built a nest in the yard and raised a chick, which rapidly morphed from a cute ball of cottony fluff into a skillful apex predator. Here he is somewhere in-between. Nicknamed “Anderson Cooper’s Hawk” (parents: Sadie Hawkins and Agent Cooper) quickly grew indifferent to the human who regularly pointed a 2013-era camera at him. #hawk #CoopersHawk #GatewayBird #photography #birds #birders #BirdWatching #BirdWatchers #California #LosAngeles #BirdPhoto #GriffithPark #DailyBird #BirdsOfPixelfed #BirdADay #DailyBird #BirdOfTheDay #LARiver #LosAngelesRiver #Opus1000 #BirdsOfMastodon #cute #NaturePhotos #LAWildlife
