The Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP)® is an independent, global NGO advancing policy innovation and thought leadership within the energy community.
I’m proud and humbled to work for @RegulatoryAssistanceProject, an organisation that is laser focused on moving the world to a low carbon future. Here’s our 2023 impact report showing how we do it. https://www.raponline.org/impact-stories/2023-impact-report-energizing-change/
2023 Impact Report

In 2023, RAP's team of experts provided policymakers and regulators the tools and knowledge to face energy sector challenges. Here's how.

A New Chapter of Growth for RAP

Richard Sedano transitions to a new role in RAP and co-founder David Moskovitz tapped as interim CEO. RAP begins comprehensive global search for next CEO.

New study! 📣 Megawatt #charging for #etrucks is an opportunity to get #EU #power #grids ready for the #energytransition ! @andreasjahn and I analyzed the cost of megawatt charging in 4 high-freight-traffic border regions in Europe. Result: charging #costs will vary considerably between Member States. Main reason is unsuitable pricing of #electricity #network for “peaky” truck charging in a maturing market !

The power of moving loads: Cost analysis of megawatt charging in Europe

Electrifying long-haul freight across Europe can dramatically reduce emissions from transport to help meet climate goals. To advance the use of electric RAP analysis of the cost to charge e-trucks at selected EU border crossings, reasons for stark differences in prices and their impact.

Regulatory Assistance Project

Policymakers, planners and site operators need a strong grasp of the costs and likely market effects of megawatt charging along key 🇪🇺 highways to build a network for e-trucks at a reasonable cost and offer competitive charging services. My colleagues @RegulatoryAssistanceProject, @andreasjahn & @Julia_Hildermeier look at the large differences in network costs across borders.

The potential for demand flexibility is vast.

The biggest source of flexibility in the EU's electrical system in 2030 will be home heating, followed by smart charging of EVs.

But how can we unlock it for everyone?

@SophieYuleBennett & @louisesunderland at the @RegulatoryAssistanceProject have answers👇

How can we make sure that lower income households and vulnerable consumers benefit from #demand-side #flexibility innovations such as smart #EV #charging, #heatpumps or rooftop solar ? Great new paper by my colleagues @SophieYuleBennett and @louisesunderland @RegulatoryAssistanceProject on #inclusive #flexibility principles and policies for a just #energytransition

"Home is where the smart is"
Great insights by my @RegulatoryAssistanceProject's colleagues on how to lessen inequities by improving access to the benefits of a clean energy system for lower-income and vulnerable households through demand-side flexibility.

⚡NEW REPORT⚡ How can we ensure flex-ability for all?

My new paper with Louise Sunderland  for @RegulatoryAssistanceProject explores opportunities to make demand flexibility benefits available and attractive to lower income and vulnerable households in Europe.🇪🇺

Homes = greatest source of demand flex potential by 2030 (smartEn), unlocking low-cost, renewable energy for all through flex must be top of the agenda.

We look at best practices, risks and next policy steps.

New paper out!
Electric vehicles can create additional value for their users and the grid through smart charging. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) goes a step further by allowing electricity to flow in both directions.

What can policymakers do to make this work for users?

Three principles to enable V2G 🚗🔌🔄:

Enabling two-way communication: Principles for bidirectional charging of electric vehicles

EVs can do more than simply transport people or goods from place to place. Through smart charging and bidirectional charging, their batteries can become an important societal resource.

HOT OFF THE PRESS: There are many different ways to support renewables.

But 2-sided CfDs is only mechanism that provides both downside protection for investors & upside protection for consumers.
