FTR, we've just been through our first winter with our heat pumps. Our house was constructed in the 1950s, so I guess you'd call it old. The heat pumps did a great job of keeping us warm, even in the depths of winter. We have a relative in his 90s living with us now, and so we heat most of the house like an old people's home, and the #HeatPumps never buckled.

I'm surprised. When I stand 3m from our two heat pumps and maybe 15m from the road, all I hear is rust noise: I can't hear the heat pumps at all.

Our heat pumps make no more noise than the oil-fired boiler they replaced.

There are legal limits on the amount of noise that #HeatPumps can make. If your neighbour's #HeatPump is unreasonably noisy then it may need servicing or repair.

Your neighbours love their heat pumps

A survey conducted for Clean Energy Canada found the top three reasons people chose a heat pump were lower energy bills, air conditioning or other comfort benefits and benefits for the environment.

I could've sworn I had a good chat on here about HVAC contractors conversant with heat pumps in upstate NY (specifically Capital District, super specifically Niskayuna) but I can't find it for the life of me. Holler if you have one that's been great in that neck of the woods. #energysky #heatpumps

Have we mentioned how much we love heat pumps? And the technology just keeps getting better and better. https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2026/03/cold-winters-are-no-match-for-modern-cold-climate-heat-pumps/

The Stevens House, "the Birthplace of Minneapolis," has a new heat pump. There's always room for improvement in an old house.

The Stevens House is thought to be the second-oldest extant wood-frame home in the Mill City.

It recently underwent extensive repairs after arsonist(s) kept trying to burn it down.

It's now surrounded by a tall black metal fence that doesn't look bad but lacks the charm of an earlier white picket fence.

Can't be helped.
