As well as Mastodon's built-in hashtag following system, you can also follow hashtags through RSS instead:
1. Search for a hashtag on a Mastodon server's website
2. Add .rss to the end of the URL
3. Use this URL as the feed address for that tag
For example to subscribe to #Dogs on mstdn.social you would use this address in your feed reader:

Do you find your Home timeline too quiet? 
Here’s how to fix this:
1. Follow more people! 
2. Follow hashtags! #️⃣

3. Check your Local timeline 🏡
This is a timeline with everyone on your instance (server). On desktop, you can browse it clicking on the “Live feeds” section on the right side menu, and browse the “This server” tab.
4. Check the Federated timeline 
This is a timeline with everyone that someone on your instance follows. On desktop, you can browse it clicking on the “Live feeds” section on the right side menu, and browse the “All” tab.
5. From these 2 timelines, follow more people! 
6. You might find too many toots (posts) are posted for you to keep track on there. To solve this, it is a good idea to activate “Slow Mode". On desktop, go to Preferences > Appearance and in the “Animations and Accessibility” section unable the option “Slow mode” 😌

On desktop browser (this will vary for mobile apps), type the topic you are looking for in the upper left “Search” field without space (ex: StarTrek) 🔍 2. In the “Search results” select the tab “Hashtags” #️⃣ 3. Click on the hashtag closest to what you are looking for 🖖 4. At the top right of the hashtag feed, click on the “Follow hashtag” button. 5.
