This is the best take on Fermi's Paradox that I've ever seen.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermi_paradox

...wir sind am Karlsplatz in ein kostenloses Freiluftkino gestolpert, das an diesem Abend einen Film gezeigt hat, der mein Hackerinnen-Herz restlos begeistert hat:
"URTOBEN - Viennas illegal artforms."

Who wants to see the goth tomatoes? This variety is called Queen of the Night. It’s kicking arse. #gardening
I made an LED hat by weaving LED pebble strings with poly rattan. Pure braiding, no glue involved. 475 LEDs in total, controlled by a @wizard Pixelblaze. More pictures 👇🧵

@BenCotterill really early. Here in Finland, I expect first tomatoes in early August. I have similar dark tomato growing called 'Indigo Rose'. It should have high anthocyanin content as probably also in your tomato.
Yeah they’re not ripe until colour starts coming through. Been told these will start getting red patches and “look like Darth maul”!
@BenCotterill
Niiiice. I'm a big fan of darker tomatoes in general. They seem to have a richer flavor in general.
@BenCotterill Those are very cool, only nitpick is, could they come up with a better name. there is a tulip called Queen of the Night, I believe there is also a cactus too.
@BenCotterill We've got some black tomatoes but we don't know what variety they are, because they came as a mixture of random seeds as a freebie along with the main order.
@BenCotterill really riding that whole nightshade vibe
@BenCotterill a nightshade the color of nightshade!
@BenCotterill
Those are gorgeous! I'm so chasing down seeds for them for next year!
@BenCotterill Damn I didn't even know there was such a thing as satanic tomatoes. Next year I'll grow them

@syphilia @BenCotterill

You know, the #tomato was once called "love apples" to get folks to eat them. Apparently this was a #marketing ploy, to give the hint that they encouraged the love thing

@BenCotterill let us taste the cursed tomatoes
@BenCotterill ohh! these would be just the tomatoes for me 🖤. They go with everything! 🤭
@BenCotterill My regular tomatoes died without remission, to grow Queen of the Night with true ambition.
That said, I have one tall tomato vine, though it’s of little use, it still climbs fine.
#deadtomatos
@BenCotterill I have tomatoes like that but their variety is Black ball. 😂 Your variety is just a bit fancier...
@BenCotterill I used to have variety called Black Russian for some years, but in the end gave up, as I managed to get ripe tomatoes of it one year, and mostly it just bloomed so late none of the tomatoes ripened before night frosts in October. It may have needed a greenhouse, which I didn't have.
@BenCotterill Awesome! What do they taste like?

@Dianora @BenCotterill

The Adams family have been growing a variety for years, the plants are quite captivating. 😱

@BenCotterill That’s why they’re called nightshades!
@BenCotterill wow, Queen of the nightshades
@BenCotterill Are they good to eat?
@Zambunny @BenCotterill cute.. But not so bizzare if you think that tomatoes was yellow (in italian the name is pomodoro = golden apple). Vegetables can change the colour very fast and easy, like eggplants, carrots..
@BenCotterill
I crossed a non-acid tomatoe with an acidy tomatoe and you know what I got? A half acid tomatoe. Joke should be verbally delivered.

@BenCotterill

@AllKeysGDS that's all you. I bet you're already researching the texture and flavor profiles

@BenCotterill the original member of the nightshade family.

@BenCotterill

I just went down a great black tomato spiral, mostly pics, and it makes me think, its time for more folks growing wonderful food themselves.

@BenCotterill

I investigated briefly the cause of the coloration (anthocyanin; thanks, poor memory). This quote from Wikipedia may be noteworthy:

"In a 2010 review of scientific evidence concerning the possible health benefits of eating foods claimed to have "antioxidant properties" due to anthocyanins, the European Food Safety Authority concluded that 1) there was no basis for a beneficial antioxidant effect from dietary anthocyanins in humans, 2) there was no evidence of a cause-and-effect relationship between the consumption of anthocyanin-rich foods and protection of DNA, proteins, and lipids from oxidative damage, and 3) there was no evidence generally for consumption of anthocyanin-rich foods having any "antioxidant", "anti-cancer", "anti-aging", or "healthy aging" effects.[5]"

@VulcanTourist @BenCotterill There have been numerous studies showing benefits from dietary anthocyanins - I'm not sure about "anti-aging" specifically, but a quick search on PubMed brings up a ton of research. The evidence might've been thinner in 2010, of course.
@BenCotterill omg we have goth tomatoes too!
@BenCotterill Wow, they are beautiful.
@BenCotterill They are beautiful!
@BenCotterill how do you know when they are ripe?
@BenCotterill Addams Family ass tomatoes, imagine their dread pomodoro
@BenCotterill trying to think of some sort of pun where it's a goth band and a tomato based food but best I got is the sisters of marinara (instead of mercy... doesn't really work)
