Imperfect ally, but I'm trying my best. This is an LGBTQ+ safe space.

Recent-ish transplant to the Twin Cities. Liberal Christian escaping the hellscape that is the south. Partner to a kick-ass woman who is smarter than me and has the PhD to prove it.

For money, I am a writer of all things #IaC as a #DevOps engineer. Occasional rescuer of servers. More frequent destroyer of servers.

For my sanity, I'm also a fan of:

#dadjokes
#puns
#LEGO
#cycling
#pf2e
#boardgames
#urbanism and urban planning in general

I boost all corgis (then share them with my partner), the odd assortment of tech humor and terrible puns, posts from folks seeking employment, things relevant to MN or US current events (being careful to avoid a large degree of negativity), and the rare political hot take. I hope to provide a place where everyone can feel welcome, be comfortable being themselves, and smile after leaving.

DrMrsSys and I braved the near-zero temperature to go walk around in the snow to see some pretty lights! It was a beautiful date night and a marvelously joyful moment in what has been an otherwise horrible and stressful week. And now you get to see what we actually look like! And also, I am an utter goofball! 😁

Bucket list item, checked off:

See the #northernlights!

So, as part of my work setup, I have a literal rubber duck named Paul on my desk. He helps me to, well, rubber duck when I need to work out a problem in my brain. He had quite a fun morning watching his brothers and sisters race down #Minnehaha Creek! Oh, and I guess his humans came along or something.

Got my first "Get off the sidewalk, you're not a pedestrian" on tonight's ride.

From a driver.

In a roundabout.

Where all of the crosswalks are marked with signs indicating both pedestrians and cyclists are crossing.

And the crosswalks are all painted bright green. Y'know, indicating a bike lane.

And all three roads that approach the roundabout have sidewalks that are fully signed as bike paths and designated as such on the city's maps.

Oh, well. You can't fix stupid.

But I did see three deer on my ride! So that redeemed the whole thing! I was so focused on riding I didn't see them until I was next to them. They seemed quite unperturbed by me riding past, and kept on eating grass. The one I got a picture of only started looking at me when it noticed I was looking at it. The other two barely glanced in my direction!

Your #cycling journey is your own. It's something I have to remind myself nearly every ride when I'm struggling up a hill and getting passed by someone 20 years my senior, or someone with all of the awesome gear, or even someone who just doesn't seem to be struggling as much as I am. But I have to remember that I'm riding for myself - my health, my time outdoors, my reduction in CO2 emissions, my weight loss. I'm only running my own race, not anyone else's. #BikeTooter
Last summer, when my partner and I moved to the Twin Cities, I didn't have the space and time to fully organize my then-built #lego sets. I had to do what every #AFOL hates: I dumped them all in one giant bin. After remaining put away at our previous place due to space constraints, we moved into a larger space this summer. After four months in our current place, this piece marks the last of nearly 18,000 Lego pieces that are sorted and living in their correctly organized containers.

It was a bit hazy and a bit on the warm side, but it was still a great lazy Sunday ride! I must accept that today, I was the MAML.

Can't believe I'm calling myself middle aged.... 🤣
