Imperfect ally, but I'm trying my best. This is an LGBTQ+ safe space.

Recent-ish transplant to the Twin Cities. Liberal Christian escaping the hellscape that is the south. Partner to a kick-ass woman who is smarter than me and has the PhD to prove it.

As promised:

I'm a staff-ish level software engineer, fairly deeply involved in the Python community (see @NorthBayPython which I organise, and @ThePSF where I'm a board Director). Things I like: understanding/taking apart/reassembling systems; open source; technology in service of humans. Otherwise not terribly picky :)

Things I'm good at: programming in #Python (other languages acceptable, of course), communicating complicated stuff in conference talks, probably a few things related to that. Ask?

As of ~45 mins ago I am no longer employed. I'm still trying to find my bearings, but would be gateful for whatever leads y'all have.

@peritia To exit vim, you can hit the Escape key, then type :wq

For learning vim, it's very likely that you installed an application called "vimtutor" when you installed vim itself. If not, try to see if you can install that.

The best advice I've ever heard about learning vim is to take it slow. Don't try to learn everything at once. Start with a few basic moves and commands. Once you're comfortable with them, take a look at the way you're using the application and see if there's a way to do the things you're already doing faster. Slowly add tools to your toolbelt over time; this helps you avoid becoming overwhelmed by feeling like you have to learn all of it at once.
