My background is in IT, before the Internet ruled the world. I got out of IT just as BYOD was gaining traction. Now doing CRM marketing using Salesforce.

I mentioned on TWiT yesterday that there was little reason to go to the movies these days because most motion pictures are crappy sequels or part of an existing (sad) cinematic universe. I underestimated the problem.

Pop Culture Has Become an Oligopoly

A cartel of superstars has conquered culture. How did it happen, and what should we do about it?

So #celebritybigbrother has started in the #uk and if you're over 30 you won't recognise anyone except for Sharon Osborne & Lois Walsh. Best bit is they don't recognise half the celebs entering the house. #CBB

Human systems grow in healthy ways on human timescales.

- The rate humans gain trust
- The rate humans learn skills
- The rate humans form shared social norms

When you force change faster than this, systems generate trauma.

It seems like there are just endless bad ideas about how to use "AI". Here are some new ones courtesy of the UK government.

... and a short thread because there is so much awfulness in this one article.

I keep telling people #LLM #chatbots read prose, not lists of facts. But maybe examples help.

In the first example, the world has many more components than the objects mentioned. All these are implications of the situation, umbrella, dynamic movement, and so on. It's not just "a person now holds an object named 'umbrella'". Yet people keep prompting these things as if choices of words and subtext doesn't matter.

Sure, the hottest new programming language is English, but are you sure you know what it means? It's not the neutral engineer-English you use in documenting things.

The second example is a dog barking at night. So, "an animal makes a noise + timestamp"? No! It all brings a world of associations and implications with it!

These systems will read your programming code and JSON elements as prose as well. It is not all the same how the properties are named, and what the contents are. Even the names of people you might have in there will spawn up worlds of imagination which will guide the chatbot in its decisions.

Did you think the names of your classes aren't executable code and hence don't matter? Well, now they are!

I have never in my life felt so seen by a piece of writing. https://nymag.com/strategist/article/led-light-bulbs-investigation.html

LED bulbs are terrible!!! But when you talk to lighting normies about things like color temperature, they look at you like you’re from another planet!

Hey @glennf just seen you on TWIG. Are you planning to release a PDF version of volumes 1 & 2 of Shift Happens? For some reason I struggle reading printed books - I'm fine with scanned books.
Good to see that the guy from that bird site has technology that can help during natural disasters. My only concern is that his head is already too big. #elon #starlink #Earthquakes
Has @Mastodon got any plans to add in auto translation of toots? Its one of the few features I miss that are on other social media sites. #mastadon #translation
