My background is in IT, before the Internet ruled the world. I got out of IT just as BYOD was gaining traction. Now doing CRM marketing using Salesforce.
@leo I was looking forward to it being available in the UK. But like yourself, now Amazon is involved I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

I mentioned on TWiT yesterday that there was little reason to go to the movies these days because most motion pictures are crappy sequels or part of an existing (sad) cinematic universe. I underestimated the problem.

Pop Culture Has Become an Oligopoly

A cartel of superstars has conquered culture. How did it happen, and what should we do about it?

So #celebritybigbrother has started in the #uk and if you're over 30 you won't recognise anyone except for Sharon Osborne & Lois Walsh. Best bit is they don't recognise half the celebs entering the house. #CBB

Human systems grow in healthy ways on human timescales.

- The rate humans gain trust
- The rate humans learn skills
- The rate humans form shared social norms

When you force change faster than this, systems generate trauma.

@MarkRDavid I've just quickly read through all your posts - some very good points there. I will digest them properly tomorrow and reply. I'm enjoying this conversation!

@MissConstrue @MarkRDavid that is very interesting stuff. I'm aware of some of the 'challenges' with the US education system as I follow a few American tech podcasts where they go off topic, talking about what's wrong with the world.

I'm not sure what all the Gen... means as the phrase only reached the UK recently, but I went to school in the 80s/90s. We learnt about cooking, life skills and learnt alot on international history - most of which I have since forgotten!

@MissConstrue I think the Internet is teaching young kids loads of things these days, my daughter knows all about rotary phones for example. I wasn't this knowledgeable at that age. But academically it's a different story.
@MarkRDavid @MissConstrue you've both made some good points. I think the standard of education in the UK has gone down hill in the last 20 years. Kids are now taught the answer and not the reason why. I see so many kids unable to read, I think it is all related to this obsession around learning phonics.
@MarkRDavid @emilymbender I'm guessing it's because they have no comprehension of what it actually means.

It seems like there are just endless bad ideas about how to use "AI". Here are some new ones courtesy of the UK government.

... and a short thread because there is so much awfulness in this one article.
