WotC is working to try to get the worst of OGL fiasco behind, them but I think the combination of them being mum on axing the OGL 1.0 is going to be more of a sticking point than they think.

I think the bigger story moving forward is who backs and how fact can the alternative ORC license get off the ground.

Time is of the essence for the ORC to strike fast before the community succumbs to D&D inertia.

Note they also have been putting these critical communications about the most important issue in D&D over on DDB, instead of the main WotC/Wizards site - probably to minimize it's visibility to the overall brand. /end

WotC is all in with a standard corporate newspeak non-apology apology.

They got busted doing something shady and it blew up in their face. So instead of being honest with their csutomers - they issue this deflecting, *we did it because we care so much, don't you care about the children* response. All while committing to continue forward with their plans, and ignoring the core OGL issues the community is furious about. /1

All this FUD (Fear, Uncertainty , Doubt) hovering above the company with by FAR the most chips in the TTRPG game...and they can't be bothered to field the concerns of the industry? OK, do your thing I guess.

You could say that this is arrogance: "We don't need to bother responding". I definitely think that is involved here, but I am going to say that choosing to be arrogant in this context is a form of cowardice.

Finally a response from WotC!

Here is my interpretration:

"Oh, hi!

I know what this looks like....it's just that I know you love cookies and I was experimenting on other ways that we could distribute them to make you even happier with your cookie eating experience. I wanted to make sure none of those other greedy people would steal your cookies."

If no one else has said it, I will: Whoever the whistleblowers at #WotC are, they deserve medals.

Also, to all my friends who work there, I'm so, so sorry you were put through this wringer. In no way did you deserve any of it. Hope you're holding up all right and you have a relaxing, restorative weekend. #DnD #OGL #OpenDnD

@Larryvela It reminds me of when EA got in trouble for the Battlefront 2 monetization. They won't fundamentally change their approach, just be more careful about implementing it so it doesn't cause a PR issue.

So WotC is only partially backing off, and not answering the critical questions on what happens to OGL 1.0

You can tell they are simmering mad, reading between the lines.

The other shoe drops.

It’s one for WotC/Hasbro to flail around in a mess of their own making. It’s another thing when major competitors start to change the landscape of the industry in reaction.

Now it’s getting interesting.

A rare thing, too.
The universe tends toward entropy.

One day around 32,000 years ago, an arctic ground squirrel ate parts of a plant, silene stenophylla, including its seed. The squirrel was digesting it when its life ended.

Its body was recovered from permafrost and examined. Scientists germinated this plant seed. This silene stenophylla just bloomed.

It is 32,000 years old.

The strength, the vitality and stamina of living things — of life itself — is incredible.
