Have little else to say but that I am entirely here for the ORC. It's a great opportunity and needed step forward for our industry. Look forward to what comes out of it.

Actually, while I am here...

It will be tempting to credit the leak for the creation of the ORC. I don't want to take credit away from this incredibly important piece of reporting (maybe the most impactful in the history of TTRPGs?), but I feel that the true credit for the creation of the ORC is:

WotC exec's cowardice.

People have been waiting for over a WEEK to hear something, and what have they received?

Nothing.

Nature abhors a vaccuum but you know what hates it even more?

a Bad PR cycle.

This isn't the kind of thing that you sit out and just let it "blow over".

They could have taken ownership.

They could have pledged to redesign the OGL with the received feedback.

They could have reached out and tried to make deals with major parties to smooth it over.

They could have done anything.

From what I can tell, what they did was hide.

How can we let them be TTRPGs leaders? We can't.

All this FUD (Fear, Uncertainty , Doubt) hovering above the company with by FAR the most chips in the TTRPG game...and they can't be bothered to field the concerns of the industry? OK, do your thing I guess.

You could say that this is arrogance: "We don't need to bother responding". I definitely think that is involved here, but I am going to say that choosing to be arrogant in this context is a form of cowardice.

Anyway, I am very glad to see a bunch of companies that I respect have filled this leadership position that WOTC execs have vacated.

@gamefiend They are stuck in a mode of trying to push through the plans they've made, while trying to alter them just enough to make them still viable while eliminating the objections to it.

Sometimes you just have to get rid of the original plan.

@hadoken honestly, if they had released a "we hear your feedback and we will work on redesigning it in accordance, they would have bought themselves a ton of time and kept a lot of goodwill.
@gamefiend Certainly better than "WotC's legal team is working with its marketing team to help you better understand our terms" approach.

@gamefiend I suspect they haven't responded because they're having an epic culture clash internally between the creative leaders and the business leaders and nobody is backing down. (I have no actual information to back this up!)

But regardless, it's shook my confidence in WotC and I'm not sad to shift my attention to Paizo. I've been meaning to give PF2E more attention anyway.

@uncanny_kate yeah, they for sure have some internal problems to resolve.

In the meantime welcome to PF2e! It's a good system.
