Move carefully and fix things.

The claim "you won't be replaced by AI, but by a person using AI" is nonsense. The Block layoff victims were some of the most productive, #llm pilled people in the company, but it didn't save them, because that's not what layoffs are about.

The layoff script goes, as always:
- overhire
- lay everyone off
- pretend it's because of #AI productivity gains
- stock go up

There is no individual solution that will protect you from bad leadership and cost cutting.

"AI layoffs" like Block's are a race to the bottom that have nothing to do with productivity.

You won't be replaced by AI, nor a person using AI, because backfills aren't real.

You've sort of put your finger on a missed opportunity in motor vehicle #marketing.

Instead of all vehicle manufacturers having the current lot of samey weird advertisements where unicorns chase them down the streets in camera drone shots whilst children shout 'Play Peppa Pig at max volume!' at the computer from the rear seats and it suddenly does, there's a niche for a manufacturer to be disruptive …

… and run an #advertising campaign where they simply show that *their* cars have proper door handles, physical control knobs that don't need one to keep reading a screen away from looking at the road, and where a 5 year old cannot cause a motorway pile-up with 'Hey Google! Emergency stop!'.

It's a product differentiator. The marketers could use it.

I always find it funny when Americans make profanity a huge deal. Like "omg they're dropping the F-bomb in this episode! first F-bomb in the whole franchise!" or whatever.

As a European, I don't even _notice_ these.

It's usually only when I'm reading reviews or discussions or watching reaction videos that I even realize that someone said "fucking" in a particular scene.

Apple to Europe: „Your laws are bad for us, therefore we are withholding unrelated features from your citizens and do everything possible to lobby against your laws.“

Apple in the USA: „We only follow the laws and orders of our authoritarian government, there is nothing we can do against it.“

I know Home Secretary is the modern Grand Vizier, that thinking is not in the job description and public displays of authoritarianism are, but still…

If you are not free to do something every moment of every day, you are not free to do something.

(Whether you should is another matter, as is what happens if you impinge on the freedoms of others.)

If your protest is subject to the sayso of your superiors, what you have is a temporary licence, not a freedom.

Having lived through Jack Straw and David Blunkett's terms as Home Secretary I had no particular optimism that Starmer's pick would be any better, but Mahmood is knocking the authoritarianism right out of the ball park: seems to have calibrated her jackboots against those worn by Patel and Braverman.
