Jonathan Kamens 86 47The Democrats on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee are holding hearings about what's going on at VA. I was invited to testify at one of the hearings (will post more about this later) and was told, "If your friends and family want to watch live, this will be streaming on the SVAC Democrats Facebook and X/Twitter feeds."
That the Dems are streaming only on Facebook and Twitter is another illustration that they're not up to the moment we're in.

Anders EknertI didn't expect my post about Swedish Television mistakenly labeling Vladimir Putin as "president USA" yesterday to blow up the way it did. What I *really* didn't expect was #Hachyderm's admins deleting my post just as it was approaching a thousand boosts. This because someone allegedly reported it as "misinformation", and that what I saw on TV "does not appear to have actually happened"... which ironically is about as Putinesque a statement can be.
So how would you fact check this? A few people commenting on the post had already done that, the way people normally do — by asking for the source. And they got it. I even boosted the link to SVT Play, where the broadcast can be streamed by anyone. It's still there https://www.svtplay.se/video/jAM5B9o/aktuellt/tor-13-mar-21-00?position=135
The Hachyderm "fact checking" process doesn't ask for a source though. In fact, they didn't ask me for anything. Since there were no news headlines mentioning this blunder, it must not have happened.
I appreciate the lecture for me to "fact check my posts before posting", but the assumption that I'd want to post anything on this instance again could certainly need some fact checking.

@rl_dane tbh, am not certain whats the difference is "under the hood". I read up on the "best" alternatives to Firefox if you value privac and LibreWolf was consistently recommended. But my job provides my phone, and that means I can choose Samsung or iPhone and no custom OS. (And no TikTok, Telegram or Deepseek) LibreWolf is apparently not in the Play store. On private desktop I run linux Mint and its a in the main repositories.
@rl_dane LibreWolf on desktop, and Waterfox on Android. Vivaldi for the odd time I need a "clean" browser with no ad-ons. Haven't used FF for quite some time

Electric GremlinReminder that Firefox has a pathway to specifying some settings, including ones not exposed to users any other way, with a config file stored on disk.
They call it enterprise policies but anyone can use it by just putting a file in the location indicated on that site.
You can disable entire features, opt out of Telemetry before your first launch of Firefox on a new install, declare you never want to be part of studies, turn off their ML integration and keep it off, force about:config preferences in a way that can't be "accidentally" reverted, etc.
