Infosec and IoT guy. Little time, little code. Also, still on uni.

@JessieHealdUK I think that Scott Jenson's talk on this topic brings some very interesting points about this.

I am not a designer by far, but I love well designed apps, and love #FOSS, and seeing smart, competent people put their heart out on good #UX for it is very cool!

This talk focuses on that evil little term “UX/UI,” which is responsible for so much confusion and tension in open-source projects. Not only does it unnecess...

Sucks even more because the software that enables visually impaired to use actual smartphones cant't really work in this arrangement. At least I have never seen it used. And don't even get me started on the bank totems that run windows xp/vista.
It's crazy how companies' dumb decisions affect everyday tech. Here where I live some of the biggest banks have fired every #hardware engineer off their company. As a result the credit card machines are now basically a smart phone with a printer and a NFC reader attached. This is very bad for the visually impaired community, because they lose a lot of #accessibility through the loss of the humble button (that originally had braille on it!), in favor of inaccessible screens for basically nothing.
I've realized in years of #selfhosting that #linux philosophy "everything is a file" fits good for me. I try not to #selfhost complex systems rather than share docs, music, pass-db, etc across my devices via #syncthing. This simplifies things so much. It's easier to backup and you can peek soft that you like, and you depend less from "yet another" #homelab architecture change. Now I'm moving my tasks from #webdav to my notes folder. Will see it works

I don’t want using my computer to be like a game of Russian roulette

I've been terribly sick for a few days so we've got some catching up to. Let's first take a look at how Windows is doing.

People often say Linux is "too much work." And I agree. They're completely justified to complain. There's the documentation page diving, the forums, the reddit threads. And, mo

Hey! I'm JJ, a #computerengineering student, junior #cybersecurity analyst and #iot / #embedded nerd.

I am currently working on an embedded #Linux based Honeypot, and using it to learn about pure #C , #crossCompiling and #LinuxKernel

I am also very interested in #hardwareHacking , #malware , #revereEngineering and overall low level stuff.

#introduction

@tux0r @thaodan @zackwhittaker

There are some somewhat philosophical question in this discussion, e.g.:
- If an #Intel chip is manufactured in #Taiwan, is it an #america|n chip or a Taiwanese chip?
- If the main maintainer of an #opensource software m (or a foundation supporting the project) is from the #US, does that mean the project is "american"?
- If you have a large project (such as a #Linux distribution) that contains hundreds of other projects, where is it coming from?

I think ultimately this discussion comes down to: "Who is in control of your device, it's software and your data?"

With #opensource software, such as #Linux, I'd argue you have much more control of your device and your data than with #Windows, #OneDrive, #Office365, #Recall and all that stuff. That's why #Signal is great, even though it's from the #USA.

I proposed #Linux because it's your *ticket* out of the ecosystem.
