#TheTree Day 12:
“Never say there is nothing beautiful in the world anymore. There is always something to make you wonder in the shape of a tree, the trembling of a leaf.”

#TheTree Day 11:
“Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky.”
— Kahlil Gebran
You can find days 1 to 10 on twitter @GJGamble
I'm taking a picture of the same Horse Chestnut at roughly the same time a few times each week to capture it as the seasons change and to provide a bit of #Continuity in our changing world. A bit of an escape from these turbulent times we live in. #trees have and will live through them.
Second survey of the year for the lichen Teloschistes chrysophthalmus, this time on Castle Hill NNR, Brighton, Sussex. They're found on a few Hawthorn trees here.
The photos show how variable the lichen can be. In the top 2 photos the lichen has few apothecia (spore-producing fruits) and a lot of spiky edges called spinules, which make it look like a small fluffy ball from a distance. The bottom photos show the more commonly found bright orange fruits. #LichenSubscribe #lichen #fungi
Another one from my special place earlier in the year. Full of drama.

For #StandingStoneSunday, this is the standing stone on Watch Croft, the highest hill in West Penwith. It stands just downhill from a pair of Bronze Age cairns and has great views across the moors towards Nine Maidens.
This visit June 2009.
Born, raised and live in #Leicestershire but my heart will always be in #Cornwall, especially West Penwith.
This is probably my favourite place on #Earth. Taken earlier in the year from atop Rosewall Hill, St Ives on the West Penwith Moors.
Not the highest and certainly not the most well known (Exmoor, Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor et al) but West Penwith has a unique character, mystery and magic all of its own.
Oh to be there now...
