(He / Him) 'The Fixer of things'

Gen-X IT Nerd, who likes tinkering with small computers, regular-sized bicycles, playing video (and latterly tabletop) games and learning interesting things. What is 'interesting' changes on a daily basis. macOS and Linux user but tries not to be an insufferable c-word about it. Showing me Windows might make me grumpy though.

Took it to heart when someone told me "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional".

Getting really tired of all the "You know what? I'm just going to build my own Steam Machine because it will be better and it will be cheaper" videos on YouTube.

Obviously the US market is considerably different to the UK as I cannot see any new hardware that compares to the price of the Steam Machine.

This is the cheapest I can come up with without resorting to used hardware (which is cheating) whilst being relatively small (this comes to 11.1 litres volume vs the Steam Machines 3.8 litre volume. Building an alternative using mATX or ATX hardware is also cheating. Yes, actually I do make the rules.)

Yup. About 3 years ago, I dumped Adobe after using it for over 20 years, and I haven't looked back.

my love language is removing the tracking parameters in the URL before sending it to you ๐Ÿ˜˜

Hmm, I had a change of heart last minute and entered the lottery for a Steam Machine... just had a mail telling me I was successful.

I wasn't really going to buy one... but now...

#LinkedIn email: "[Someone you worked with briefly 30 years ago] just solved a LinkedIn puzzle game. Think you can beat their score?"

It's like someone phoning you and saying:
'Hi, do you remember Tony?'
'Tony who?'
'You worked with him for a summer when you left school. That Tony.'
'Erm. Ok. Tony. Yes, vaguely.'
'Well, I'm calling to say he just completed a crossword.'
'O...kay? And?'
'That's it, really. I thought you might want to know, in case you wanted to do one too'

Think the house stone walls are completely heat soaked.

It's 28 degrees both upstairs and downstairs despite running a portable aircon unit for most of yesterday and I typically struggle to sleep above 20 degrees.

I hate it.

Just played a couple of hours of the new demo for #OvertheHill it was already on my watchlist, but that confirms it... I'm buying this as soon as it's released.

The fact that this might be true and I, who was born here and lived here for over half a century, could not tell you any of the possible answers speaks volumes about just how awful this "citizenship" test really is.

There is a special kind of modern irony in watching a "smart" home device completely fail to function just because a remote cloud server on the other side of the ocean went offline. It is a subtle reminder of why local control and open-source infrastructure matter so much. ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ˜ญ
