Everybody was weirded out by JKR making Dumbledore be in love with Grindelwald, because Grindelwald is basically Hitler. But I just realised that this falls weirdly in place with her worldview. Queer people are the bad guys who try to destroy the world with their "ideologies". And notice how Dumbledore never was in a relationship again afterwards. As if he realised being gay is bad and if he can't help it, he'd rather be single forever.
