“strengthens the role of parents as primary caregivers” is what the GovofAB claims their anti-trans laws do, but oddly enough they choose to do that by putting politicians between the parents of trans kids and their doctors.
The justification given is that supposedly a “majority” of Albertans support this, doubtful, and irrelevant, because the whole reason we have a Charter of Rights and Freedoms is to prevent exactly this kind of oppression by a supposed majority.

when you argue with people who are transphobic, you may be put into some difficult situations, some difficult questions that you struggle to find the answer to. here is a simple piece of advice.
a common tactic is that they will use made up scenarios. they will make up a situation and ask you what should be done in this scenario. a classic one is the trans woman who happens to be a sexual abuser. take everything you know about trans women and their sexual abuse statistics, no matter how low they are. put that aside.
take the situation you are being presented with and remove the trans part.
should a trans person in prison receive their hormonal treatment? remove the trans part. should a person in prison receive the treatment they need?
one that i heard recently is, *should a trans woman who has been convicted for sexually assaulting another woman be allowed to access women's spaces, such as bathrooms, shelters, and so on? remove the trans part. should a woman who has been convicted for sexually assaulting another woman be allowed to access women's spaces such as bathrooms, shelters, and so on?
transphobes will try to otherize us, to strip away our humanity and to present us as only trans. don't let them. trans people are not trans first and foremost. they are people first. the word trans might come before but don't let it trap you.
the awful truth is that society has already made a great job at otherizing us, at dehumanizing us. and therefore it is completely easy for you, no matter how good of an ally yourself, or even you, a trans person, to fall into that rhetoric. if you're trans it's easy to get emotional about these things and it's also very easy to trip on your internalized transphobia. don't be ashamed of that. society is filled with transphobia. you have been swimming in it your entire life. it's normal that it took root inside of you. just keep in mind that you can never truly get rid of it. it will always be there no matter how hard you work on it. and it will come back the moment you start thinking that you got rid of it, that you're above it.
the phrase trans rights are human rights is not a political slogan. it's the core of the battle. forget the trans parts. we are talking about human rights. we're talking about the right of people to be able to exist freely, to access their treatment, to be treated as equal. the fact that they are trans, while being the core of the issue as to why they're the subject of the debate, should also be treated as irrelevant as possible. otherwise, your own transphobia might get the better of you.

Introduce a law to legally protect the right of those aged 18 and over to transition using NHS services. This should specifically cover physical transition, including hormone treatment and surgery, as otherwise I believe it could potentially be interpreted as including conversion therapy.
