The project analyses how #OpenStreetMap can complement satellite data in tracking land cover change in Germany.
This approach contributes to LaVerDi (Landschaftsverรคnderungsdienst), a public service by the German Agency for Cartography and Geodesy, offering free, regularly updated geodata on land cover change across Germany.

Open human mobility data in Spain is available NOW, thanks to Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad Sostenible, Nommon directly at https://www.transportes.gob.es/ministerio/proyectos-singulares/estudios-de-movilidad-con-big-data/opendata-movilidad and via #rstats package #spanishoddata https://ropenspain.github.io/spanishoddata/

Similar data across the EU might become available in the coming years as part of official regular statistics, thanks the methodology and tools developed by Positium, Nommon and their partners in the MULTI-MNO project: https://cros.ec.europa.eu/landing-page/multi-mno-project

On June 4th, 2025, I will be speaking at @geomob in Berlin about open human mobility data in Spain and the EU, and its practical and scientific applications. #geomobBER . Attendance is free, just register at https://thegeomob.com/post/june-4th-2025-geomobber-details . I will briefly mention #rstats #spanishoddata too, of course: https://ropenspain.github.io/spanishoddata/

We've done it ๐Ÿฅณ

Finally, there's a canonical paper on the #QGIS project, its history, workings, and challenges: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2666389925001138

Thanks to @timlinux and @mbernasocchi for joining me in trying to tell the QGIS story ๐Ÿ’š

On June 4th, I (Evgenii) will be giving a small talk in Berlin on Dawarich and how it uses geospatial services and tools. Feel free to join!

CRAN Task View: Analysis of Spatial Data

Base R includes many functions that can be used for reading, visualising, and analysing spatial data. The focus in this view is on โ€œgeographicalโ€ spatial data, where observations can be identified with geographical locations, and where additional information about these locations may be retrieved if the location is recorded with care.

Sad to learn of the tragic passing of Lorena Abad Crespo: https://www.plus.ac.at/geoinformatik/department/team/abad-crespo/?lang=en

Lorena joined us at the R Dev Day @ PLUS 2024, held at Paris Lodron Universitรคt Salzburg, the day after the useR! 2024 conference.

A talented scientist lost too soon.

please test my package and give feedback! if you're a python data scientist that uses #Nix I'd be very interested in your feedback!

Multi-language pipelines with rixpress โ€“ Econometrics and Free Software

I'm currently preparing slides for upcoming workshops that I will hold at @IC2S2, AGIT conference. and perhaps a few other places. I am trying to clearly illustrate how out-of-core computation works in #DuckDB ( @duckdb ). While skimming through various DuckDB tutorials on YouTube, I noticed thereโ€™s a lack of good visual explanations.

Iโ€™ve put together a few slides trying to illustrate this, and Iโ€™d really appreciate your feedback. Do the visuals make sense? Are they easy to understand?
