​​Opportunities and challenges of sero-epidemiology for understanding pathogen dynamics​ | LSHTM

Over the past years, high throughput multiplexed serological assays have become available, allowing simultaneous quantification of antibody responses against 100s and even 1000s of antigens, from a single sample. These novel technologies offer unprecedented opportunities to study the dynamics of multiple pathogens simultaneously, reconstruct susceptibility profiles of populations and inform control interventions. In this talk, Isabel Rodriguez-Barraquer will discuss some of the challenges and opportunities in seroepidemiology.​

Malaria-driven expansion of adaptive-like functional CD56-negative NK cells correlates with clinical immunity to malaria

Led by Maureen Ty (CDC LLS fellow) samples from IDRC_Uganda. Repeated malaria parasite exposure associated with expansion of CD56- NK cells. Despite minimal response to direct parasite stimulation or cytokine cocktail, CD56- NK cells displayed antibody dependent cellular cytotoxicity against opsonized Plasmodium-infected RBCs & p815 mastocytoma cells
