The #Yes23 website has a FAQs page for people who want to learn more about the #Indigenous #VoiceToParliament #Referendum. I'll #VoteYes because, as Yes23 says, "It's a rare chance to make a major positive impact now and for future generations". 🖤💛❤️

Spicy take: The modern internet has spent the last 20 years continuously reinventing the same basic suite of services, badly, getting worse each iteration.

The only service that’s gotten better that I can think of is Telnet, which is improved upon by SSH, but SSH itself should have simply been a wrapper for other protocols that adds secure encryption, wrapping rsh and ftp and telnet, not replacing them.
Mastodon is just Twitter without corpo bullshit. It works, and I am, glad it works, but fundamentally it’s still inferior to older technology. In a sane world we’d all be talking on an improved Usenet that didn’t need centralized servers at all (Usenet servers federated content before ActivityPub’s bollocks descended).
Why all this degeneration? Because people insist on using a web browser for everything.
According to the current list of #bannedbooks as collected by #PEN, the Frisco Independent School District in #Texas has apparently banned #TheLordOfTheRings and #TheHobbit by #JRRTolkien.
It’s a mind boggling assembly of works and authors on this list. Aside from brilliant fiction like Tolkien and @neilhimself, the list includes names like #StephenHawking or #MartinLutherKingJr.
Truly, the list is an astonishing monument to willful ignorance, perfidy and malice.
PEN America's fall 2022 Index of Banned Books found 1,477 instances of individual books banned, affecting 874 unique titles. This searchable banned book list includes each documented book ban in the first half of the 2022-23 school year.
Bit of a long shot, but could my good mastodon follower folk give me some boosts?
I'm starting work on a documentary podcast series about the future of space; renewable/sustainable technologies, commercialism in the sector and the public's perception of it all.
I'm hoping to connect with people who know space to complement my client's contacts, so any signal boosting would be appreciated!
Today I went in for a doctor visit and I found out that the woman that refused to treat my sprained knee until I got bariatric surgery got fired from my doctors office.
I also found out that my doctor no longer requires weigh ins and I told him how much I appreciated that and that I had to work with my therapist to get up the courage to come in for a visit, and no longer requiring weigh ins will help so much.
A little further into the exam, he stops and looks me directly in the eyes and says ‘I’m so glad you are here. I’m so glad you came in.’ Dear readers, I started to ugly cry right there on the doctors table. I walked out of the office ready to kill for my doctor.
Medical professionals, it doesn’t take much. Be kind. That’s it. Be kind so that your patients know it’s ok to be kind to themselves. You literally can’t take care of yourself while you’re beating yourself for being slothful.
Be kind. That’s all.
Trying to find my people on Mastodon. Please boost and follow me if you:
-Believe the lava from lava lamps must be returned to volcanoes, where it rightfully belongs.
-Mentally greet each dog you see just in case they are telepathic.
-Think that airplanes are too heavy to fly and refuse to listen anytime someone attempts to explain the physics of it to you.
-Argue that every marathon runner should shave their eyebrows to be a little bit faster.
-Want toddlers to eligible to run for president.
