"Pride (In the Name of Love)" is a song by Irish #rock band U2. It is the second track on the band's 1984 album, #TheUnforgettableFire, and was released as its lead #single in September 1984. The song was produced by #BrianEno and #DanielLanois. Written about the civil rights leader #MartinLutherKingJr, "#Pride" received mixed critical reviews at the time, but it was a major commercial success for U2 and has since become one of their most popular songs.

One year after his first #Vietnam speech, #MartinLutherKingJr was assassinated in Memphis on #ThisDayInHistory in 1968 by #WhiteSupremacist #JamesEarlRay, who may not have worked alone. King was deeply unpopular in the US, not least for his anti-imperialist & #SocialJustice work.

The call to "struggle for a new world" that was issued by #MartinLutherKingJr on #ThisDayInHistory in 1967 is as relevant now as ever. In his last years, #MLK focussed increasingly on sharp critiques of #imperialism & #capitalism, like in the #BeyondVietnam speech from this day.
