Hey #MomsForLiberty, I mean Moms for #fascism, I taught #Beloved today -- you know, one of your favorite books to ban, the one that won a #Nobel -- and the discussion was wonderful, thoughtful, powerful. The students were blown away by #Morrison's voice, writing, story. We talked about a lot about #grief, generational #trauma, and the power of stories. And F you for trying to take them away.

Book challenges came from 1) pressure groups, decision-makers or government officials (92%), parents (2.7%), or individual readers (1.4%).
The American #Library Association (ALA)'s Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) says "#BookBans were not sparked by concerned #parents, [or] the result of grassroots efforts. They were part of a politically driven campaign to suppress the stories of #LGBTQIA+ & Bipoc communities.”
40% of the #BannedBooks were about #gays, #minorities.
