State of America’s Libraries Report reveals 4,235 unique titles challenged in 2025, marking the second-highest total on record

Book challenges came from 1) pressure groups, decision-makers or government officials (92%), parents (2.7%), or individual readers (1.4%).
The American #Library Association (ALA)'s Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) says "#BookBans were not sparked by concerned #parents, [or] the result of grassroots efforts. They were part of a politically driven campaign to suppress the stories of #LGBTQIA+ & Bipoc communities.”
40% of the #BannedBooks were about #gays, #minorities.
