A fan of a certain age, or a greying geek if you will. I grew up with and still love old-school Sci-Fi and Telefantasy from the 1960s and '70s (some of that newfangled '80s stuff too). I'd rather we were friends than followers.

Even as a kid, some things just looked wrong. Case in point: this TARDIS Commander badge. It was originally merchandise for the 1972 BBC TV Visual Effects exhibition at the Science Museum in London, but they must have had plenty left over, because they were still available to buy at the Doctor Who exhibition in Blackpool a couple of years later.

I hate it when my page starts looking like an obituary column, but I'm very sorry to hear that Jill Curzon has passed away. Fans of the Peter Cushing Dalek movies will remember her as Louise in Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.

Very sorry to hear that David Burke has passed away. Playing opposite the definitive Sherlock Holmes of Jeremy Brett, Burke helped redefine Dr. Watson away from the bungling-oaf caricature the character had previously become. His successor in the role, Edward Hardwicke, continued that trajectory beautifully.
Away from Baker Street, I also very much enjoyed Burke’s performance as the elderly butler Patten in A View from a Hill.

Happy 88th birthday to Roy Thinnes, former fighter of invading aliens and part-time architect (though I don’t recall David Vincent stopping to do much architectural work).
Thinnes also starred in The Norliss Tapes (one of the best TV pilots never to make it to series), played Roger Collins in the short-lived Dark Shadows revival, and was a contender for the role of Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation, though he lost out on that particular gig to some English bloke.
