Even as a kid, some things just looked wrong. Case in point: this TARDIS Commander badge. It was originally merchandise for the 1972 BBC TV Visual Effects exhibition at the Science Museum in London, but they must have had plenty left over, because they were still available to buy at the Doctor Who exhibition in Blackpool a couple of years later.

@Doctor_Roo The Tardis for many years did really get drawn badly though. There is a sort of history for "that's awful"

@Printdevil

Ha! Very true.

Mind you, I’m prepared to cut the annual artists of the 1960s a bit more slack, because police boxes of the same design as the TARDIS were really only common in London and Glasgow (the ones we had where I lived in Manchester at the time were very different).

@Doctor_Roo Not entirely sure a police box in Belfast in the 1960s-70s would have lasted very long...

As a boy, I learned to draw the TARDIS from illustrations in the Doctor Who Annuals from the Patrick Troughton era. My TARDISes always had those ‘stabiliser’ blocks on the front and the wrong number of windows on the side. It was only many years later, when I saw the publicity photos of Jackie Lane posing beside the hastily constructed stand-in TARDIS prop, that I realised where those bloomin’ stabilisers had come from. 🙂

@Doctor_Roo To quote War Pigs by Black Sabbath, "OH LORD YEAH!!"

This looks so wrong.

Can't remember all the badges I bought from the Blackpool exhibition. Young me did get the hell scared out of him by a Dalek saying "THAT IS NOT THE DOCTOR AT THE CONTROLS!" as I pressed some buttons and pulled some levers.

Got a recall of an Eagle Commander badge with a Space:1999 Eagle spacecraft on it. Which I may still have somewhere here.

@CaptMikeYates

The Space: 1999 ‘Commander’ badge made a lot more sense.

I loved that period in the 1970s when Gerry Anderson's ‘Space City’ exhibition coexisted along the Golden Mile with the Doctor Who Exhibition. My family did too, as whenever we went to Blackpool I would spend practically the whole week in the Doctor Who exhibition rather than on the beach. As my dear old Nan used to say: “At least he’s getting some variety now.” 🙂

@Doctor_Roo Oh yes!!! That's the one!!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜
