Education is everything. Dogs are the best.
UPDATE: Good old subversive Mister Urdd was wearing a pride flag hat for the jambori. The 230,000 children taking part heard the presenters point out that the #Urdd supports #LGBT.
@plugusin Could there be a particular edu hashtag that carries with it a mutually-agreed charter of purpose?
Long-time tooters have been explaining that it's polite to use #ContentWarnings when posting about stress-inducing politics, and I have done so; I often check social media late at night when I really just want to unwind, so I get where they're coming from.
My question is: should we do the same with posts about OFSTED and other teaching gripes? Just saw a post about inspections/pointless paperwork, and I'd rather be here to gain inspiration than dwell on that. #EduTooter #EduToot
@plugusin There is a culture in education of constantly needing to prove oneself, and getting approval for ideas shared (getting lots of 'likes' or 'favourites') might satisfy that temporarily, whereas introspective reflection might feel like more hard work, or the things many teachers are great at: self-doubt and self-depreciation! So how to we ensure discussions leave participants feeling recharged and uplifted? Some kind of mantra or ethos that reminds us truly why we do what we do?

One of my hopes for social spaces like this is that we engage in meaningful conversations with each other --- that this become a place for thinking together.

Twitter lost that and became primarily a space for simple sharing only.

What steps should we take early on to ensure that the norms for #Edutooter nation become something more than simple sharing?

(Or is that something we should even try to control?)

@nspugh It sometimes goes the other way too, where my colleagues and I really believe in or support something, and we have to remind ourselves that we are there to teach learners HOW to think, not WHAT to think!
I used to #follow lots of #celebrities on other #SocialMedia but when I arrived here, I just started following people with similar interests to me, and I realised that it is a much more satisfying and relaxing experience.
I used to laugh a lot at #parody accounts too, but I just saw one that had been boosted by someone I follow, and I felt compelled to block it immediately. I doesn't appeal to me to try to duplicate previous experiences here.

Hello Mastodon. I’m Luke, an aging Welsh millennial who is more stressed about learning a new platform than is reasonable.

I work at Citizens Advice Cymru, so will have a mix of work and personal stuff on here. Expect unapologetic šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ vibes and šŸ³ļøā€āš§ļø allyship. Occasional election geekery too.

#introduction2… Also interested in #music #choirs #bookclubs #humour - and #cats of course. Passionate about the importance of breaking cycles of deprivation, neglect, exploitation and offending by enabling ways out for young people, and in awe of those who dedicate their lives to doing that.
Made it to Mastodon. Give me a follow for all things #Scottish #Education, #antiracism, #globalcitizenship #equalities.
