Does anyone have experience making/running or participating in a really-good online book club?

I want to make one for reading radical literature, but all the ones I've participated in thus far have ranged from "OK" to "bad", and I'm trying to figure out why and what to do about that

I feel like most of it is lack of intentional design re: a discord server. So I'm first thinking about
1. Is discord even the best way to do this
2. Are there more secure, good alternatives for discussing radical lit w/ a probably-casual intro group?

It was an evening of thoughtful discussion and excellent questions at Carysue’s book club last night. The overall theme was how l readers learned enough to correct some of their stereotypes. We even learned that one of the esteemed book club members members stripped on a table once!!
