I love hiking and have just completed my first long distance walk. Sadly work and family commitments mean I can't go out hiking as much as I'd like. Sometimes my pug will join me on some of my hikes, but he can't walk too long or he has to be carried.

Other interests include travelling, reading, crocheting, watching Kdramas and learning Korean.

My #FoggyFriday contribution is from December 2024 when my son and I walked part of the South Downs Way in the cold, fog and wind. It was amazing even though we were very worn out at the end of the day.
We're off camping for a week starting Saturday, although it will be more like glamping as we're bringing a bell tent and loads of comforts. It will be the first time our dog is going camping so hopefully he behaves himself. I'm very much looking forward to a week of digital detox. Will turn off my phone and only use my Kindle (and even that one sparingly). There will be lots of walks, and lots of just sitting around enjoying nature. I can't wait!

I think I have finally figured out my summer hike with my son. Germany was on the table and so was the Cumbria Way for a bit but because of stress, I never got around to booking accommodation for either and now it's too late. And I couldn't get my son's passport renewed in time so we'll have to stay in the UK.
New plan is to walk the Golden Valley Pilgrim Way, a 60 mile route along the Wye Valley, the Golden Valley and the foothills of the Black Mountains. Accommodation would be in churches so hopefully they are all available. Very relieved to have found something.

We have laws to deal with crimes linked to protest. What this is really about is ministers complicit in the Gaza atrocities seeking to silence dissent, says actor Juliet Stevenson

I wanted to go to bed early tonight but we ended up having a late-ish dinner and then we spent 2 hours chatting (me, my husband and our two kids). Afterwards I continued chatting with my oldest in his room and he said "I'm kinda sad to be leaving in August as I'll miss chatting with you guys like this." It made me both sad and happy to know that he will miss us.

I spent an hour this afternoon lying in the overgrown grass of our "lawn" looking up at the clouds in the sky and listening to the insects. The grass smelt amazing, my dog joined me for a bit and it was all super relaxing. Must do that more often.

Nice to see the Royals involving themselves in climate change chat ahead of COP30, finger wagging at the world about how we should all do more. William saying "But these goals will remain out of reach unless we move from promises to action - grounded in respect, equity, and shared responsibility."

This coming from a family of wealth hoarders who could completely eradicate homelessness in the UK 36 times over and still have nearly a billion pounds left over. They could implement a universal basic income bringing many more minds to the fore to tackle actual problems rather than their own poverty and despair. Refocus the nation from fast food and fast culture into something more sustainable and meaningful. Instead he just makes empty soundbytes so he can look like he cares and is doing something important. Like watching a whole load of people fall to their death, whilst flapping his arms at them in encouragement.

'If we save the sea, we save our world', he says. He owns the fucking sea. The Crown Estate owns the territorial seabed out to 12 nautical miles and around half of the foreshore around England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Why doesn't he do something about it. Instead of appearing on telly to tell other people what to do. Noone cares about anything or anyone. Until the people who can take action do take action, how do they expect others will? William talking about equity and shared responsibility..... does he even understand how that sounds to the rest of the world?

Anyway wooooosaaaaaaah, hurrah! Saturday! Let's get out there and do this! I missed my run this morning due to sleeping, so am going to attempt to go out during the day instead in this unbelievable heat like an idiot. Hooray! Hope you're all fab. Sorry for the moan. Bastards though, all of them. X

I really want to do a multiday hike this weekend but the weather is supposed to be really warm. I don't do well in temperatures above 20C and especially not while carrying a heavy backpack. On the other hand, it would be so awesome to camp while the weather is warm for once. We could sit out later, wait till the sky turns dark and then stargaze...
