TIL: the Korean and Mandarin translations for "vote" are pronounced very similar!

One of the joys of listening to languages that build in relationship-indicators to their ways of speaking to each other.
The depth of a relationship indicated by a ํ vs ์์ ์จ or ์ ๋ฐฐ๋
Because of the complexity of its pronouns, the Vietnamese translation adds an extra layer of depth to the otherwise shallow dialogue of the Star Wars original trilogy, which I watched on TV in Vietnam. People speak to droids with the pronouns used to speak to pets or farm animals. Droids address people as professional superiors. Droids speak to each other like they are siblings. Vader speaks to everyone (except the emperor and Tarkin) as an arrogant superior addressing an underling.

Practicing vocabulary and writing in Mandarin and Hangeul
I feel like seeing this entire month's worth of practice is an award for me. Wow!

I just realized, after seeing posts of Kyungsoo's Tokyo concerts this weekend, that Tokyo is spelled ๋๊ต in Hangeul, where ๋ is the same as Kyungsoo's last name. But 'D' versus 'T' in romanization.
With that realization, it finally occurred to me that ใ is like a double ใท just like ใ is a double ใฑ. ๐คฏ It looks so obvious now!
#Inktober2025 #Inktober days 20 & 21: rivals & blast
Practicing vocabulary and writing in Mandarin and Hangeul
Attention to detail is missing for me today, putting the Mandarin under the wrong days.
Korean "rivals" was super easy because it is literally the English word "rival" with the Korean plural particle ๋ค at the end.
Mandarin "blast" kicked my ass. Two complicated characters, and that second half of the first one has so many elements. ๐ฉ

My elderly neighbor, who speaks no English, received my parcels, and I was able to handle the entire exchange, including discussing an extra unexpected parcel, entirely in Dutch.
Progress, I think?
