Florida surgeon general altered key findings in study on Covid-19 vaccine safety

Joseph Ladapo defended the move, saying revisions are a normal part of assessing such analysis.

Holy Crap.

If confirmed, we'll have to figure out how to categorize 180,000 newly discovered viruses.

@RNA has called this the "Platinum Age of Virus Discovery"!

"Identification of #RNA viruses is currently limited to those with sequence similarity to a known #virus, such that... the 'dark matter' of the virosphere remains challenging to detect.

We developed a deep learning algorithm [which] integrates both sequence and structural information..."

Excellent workshop review on #MucosalImmunity and #SarsCoV2 #vaccines really underscores how challenging mucosal vaccines are to develop, and how large the knowledge gaps are.

A useful counterpoint to the loud voices over the last couple of years that implied this was an easy problem and we should already be fielding them.

Pandas in Wuhan market? China’s COVID genetic study is out—it has problems

The study acknowledges raccoon dogs were present but reports some unlikely animals.

The Chinese CDC analyses of the Market samples: finally published in Nature.

And now the sequences can be analysed by others....let's see whether this agrees to the presence of pandas at the Market...

'The genetic data was drawn from swabs taken from in and around the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market starting in January 2020, shortly after the Chinese authorities had shut down the market because of suspicions that it was linked to the outbreak of a new virus. By then, the animals had been cleared out, but researchers swabbed walls, floors, metal cages and carts often used for transporting animal cages.'

New Data Links Pandemic’s Origins to Raccoon Dogs at Wuhan Market

Genetic samples from the market were recently uploaded to an international database and then removed after scientists asked China about them.

Really exciting news on #covidorigins, with papers coming on samples connected to animals at the Huanan Market. It's exciting because this question has been raised, repeatedly by @eddieholmes (see interview on post 18) - who explained why it was incredulous that there was no signs of animal DNA in the China CDC reports:

And now we may finally see an answer with direct evidence. Congrats to Eddie, @flodebarre and also @K_G_Andersen
