The #dusk #EveningSky at approx 745pm on June 18 2026 #sunset with the #CrescentMoon (and probably Jupiter or Venus below it but not very clear in the photo 🙁) #BigSky #NightSky

One of the advantages of being in the week of the shortest days of the year is biking home from work after dark, in cold clear air, with the universe sparkling overhead.

Here's this evening with the Moon, Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury all lined up above the western horizon, from Lincoln, NZ.

Wer hat das gestern beobachten können? Ist das nicht wunderschön?

Die Mondsichel und die Venus waren gestern Abend nicht nur bei uns schön zu sehen. Die Konstellation war auch über:

Taiwan 🇹🇼
Japan 🇯🇵
Südkorea 🇰🇷
weiten Teilen Chinas 🇨🇳
Indien 🇮🇳
Europa 🇪🇺
und sogar Teilen Nordamerikas 🇺🇸🇨🇦

sichtbar – jeweils natürlich zu den lokalen Abendstunden.

The Moon and Venus a few hours ago, with my phone:

You can see how the entire Moon is visible actually but a slice of it is directly lit by the Sun so it makes it appear in that particular way to our naked eyes. Super cool.

Asteroid or comet? Meteor or meteorite? How to identify and classify the rocks you see streaking through the sky

An observatory director describes the differences between the types of rocks that fly through space.

The Conversation

Four worlds gather in the western twilight this week.

Venus blazes. Jupiter commands. The crescent Moon whispers with Earthshine. Mercury peeks through the fading light.

8:45 PM. Face west. No gear required.
