New camera day! I picked up an old micro 4/3 OM-D E-M1 and snapped a few photos around my local beaver pond. The colour photo is a JPEG straight out of the camera. I made the b/w photos to test the tonal range of the new system.

I love the idea of M4/3 for backcountry tripping; lighter gear on portages and fully weather sealed. This rig is apparently resistant to freezing, too. It won't be long before I can test that.

Here are a couple of our backyard visitors today: a dark-eyed junco (Junco hyemalis) and a black-capped chickadee (Poecile atricapillus).

During a mid-fall camping trip, this pileated woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) surprised us on our campsite and stuck around long enough to have his photo taken. What a treat!

On a recent hike through the backcountry, I came across this photogenic little squirrel, who was all too willing to pose for the camera.
