#Genocide
5 of the most #violence ridden countries in the world are in Africa. In Somalia in 2022 there were over 6,500 reported fatalities. Murder, rape & kidnapping are prevelant.

The unequal #news coverage is notable & seems dependent on economic & ethnic factors. #oppression and desperation leads to #terrorism. #tribalism & #hatred breeds more violence and hatred. All terrorism deserves comdemnation. Including retaliatory terrorism.

We have selective tunnel vision. The #media in its obsession with the "newest, bright, shiny object" does us all a great disservice. Have you ever heard of Mao Zedong? From 1958 to 1962, his policies led to the deaths of up to 45 million people, the largest episode of mass murder ever recorded & most of us have never heard of it. Genocide is all around us. Not just in #israel. The unequal coverage of genocide in the #rohingya, #darfur vs. #ukraine & Israel. Food for thought. Enough! The slaughter of innocents whether by Hamas, Putin or Netanyahu is to be condemned.

Weird personal request: if there is anyone out there who studied history at University of Bristol, could you please drop me a line? pls boost for reach
Sometimes you get lucky with #FamilyHistory research and uncover a treasure trove. I’m researching a #WW1 soldier and his Army record on @AncestryUK runs to 18 pages! Now to disentangle a very complicated story.

Working my way through Day 2 videos for #AllAboutThatPlace and šŸ˜. Making some exciting connections with others on the Facebook page too! Any #FamilyHistorians and #Geneadons should be sure to check it out (runs for another 8 days, new talks and tasks every day). https://www.facebook.com/groups/allaboutthatplace
1. Spot first idea in #AllAboutThatPlace talks
2. Open Trello #OnePlaceStudies to-do board to add it
3. 😳
4. Back away slowly from all those exciting ideas until #AllAboutThatPlace is done - now is the joyous time to watch talks, add more tasks, and make quick notes, not time to embark on the nitty-gritty of the actual work.
A different view for today's photograph. #Glastonburytor
One small step forward today: I now have a banner for my One-Place Study. You can read the outline of 'my' place here: https://www.one-place-studies.org/europe/england/kent/the-lew-tunbridge-wells/ Now to start on some research!
The Lew, Tunbridge Wells One-Place Study - Society for One-Place Studies

Country: England Region (County/State / Province): Kent Website: None specified Contact: Jane Hough Study Description  'The Lew' was the name given to a small area of Tunbridge Wells in Kent. The name is thought to refer to a long-extinct stream, and is mentioned in the school song of the nearby Skinners' School: "Then here's a toast...

@SocOnePlaceStudies I'm definitely preferring here on Mastodon because it is so much calmer. And the longer posts and edit function are so useful, finding it quite difficult to condense info enough to fit on Bluesky. Mastodon wins with the privacy & data stuff too!
And you are a star for all your hard work adding content to all those places!
