Skybridges Connect Communities Across Platforms

When Projectkin first launched on Substack, family historians and genealogists were rare finds. Now that we’ve become a vibrant community, it’s time to stretch beyond our roots and build “Skybridges!”

So often I get the feeling that #FamilyHistorians underestimate how mobile our ancestors were in the 18th and 19th century. There I hear "a person born in Southern Germany can't have married in the North, that must be a conflated person." or "the child was born in that region, I give the mother the same region for her birthplace." Only because most of our #ancestors stayed in a relatively small area that doesn't mean that others didn't move, and also moved over bigger distances. #genealogy

In honor of #NationalGenealogyDay, I am having fun with #WikiTree 's Connection to Me finder.

Randomly, I stumbled upon this guy who is my 29th Great Grandfather. I connect to him through my favorite Bonner line from ... you guessed it, #Appalachia 🙂

In the past 90 days, Projectkin has attracted a remarkable community of #FamilyHistorians. All of them hooked on stories.

Just as I got ready to celebrate the work of our members in a new Members’ Corner, this gem appeared by Robin Stewart of GenealogyMatters. In it, she shows us how to add a free interactive timeline to any web-based telling of a family story. It's brilliant.

I don't often share profiles on #WikiTree but this one was fascinating to see what the Profile Manager did with the sources and documents.

Little did I know that I helped out a tiny bit but the Profile Manager made it into a truly remarkable example of how wonderfully sourced really old ancestor's profiles can look.
