On this 82nd anniversary of D-Day, remember: The way we wonder why Germans didn’t stop Hitler is exactly how the rest of the world views Americans and Trump today.
@Strandjunker Yes! I studied German history and lived there for a couple years after college and wondered about that a lot when I was there. I am HORRIFIED to have been experiencing it here in the US over the past 25+ years (starting with the 2000 election which happened a few months after I returned to the US).
@Strandjunker I live in the rest of the world and I endorse this message.
@Strandjunker The hardest part for me, is wondering how many people hated Hitler after the war, not because they thought he was wrong, but because he didn't succeed.

@kimlockhartga @Strandjunker

But the Germans had been fed certain self-defeating (or self-serving) narratives for decades which helped pave the way for someone like Hitler. The mass consciousness of the public was in a weird place. Any of this sound familiar?

@kimlockhartga @Strandjunker

Just yesterday read about Winifred Wagner (on first name basis with Hitler since 1925, NSDAP member since 1926) who still talked about her friendship with Hitler and that she would welcome him in 1975.

In May 1945, Klaus Mann wrote that she was the only honest one he met in Germany.

@Mab_813 @Strandjunker I really don't know how people in general felt at the time, but I have to think that it had to be a lot of mixed sentiments.
@kimlockhartga @Strandjunker there were several assassination attempts, mostly from members of the Wehrmacht that were mad about how badly the war was going
@yakmacker @Strandjunker absolutely! 18 attempts. But, people forget what it was like, and they try to bring it back, which is why now we have the AFD. And why other countries are having similar problems.
@kimlockhartga @Strandjunker
The werewolves now are cosplayers, but some will have been inducted by the previous generation.
@Strandjunker straight up 1930s Germany feels
@Strandjunker well and many Germans look at Germany again…
@Strandjunker You're off target, and naively misleading those with dependents: the wealthiest are using the US admin as a 'sink' for accountability that takes them out of power. It's the #TechBros and #FossilFuels leaders who are joining IMMENSE forces to put the final squeeze on the masses, and put us #BackIntoCaves. They must be replaced, asap.

@EvoScale @Strandjunker Who do you think endorsed, financed and profited from Hitler‘s rise to power.

As a starting point, you could start with the family holding the majority of BMW.

@axeln It's astounding to just see the backup plans these oppressors wield. Research luxury bunkers of the wealthy, then throw in literally trillions in coalesced wealth in siphoning as much as they can, as fast as they can.

The current metric puts natzi scales to shame - and the loss of life is just now, beginning. Sure, there's a small chance enough people will equally band together to countermeasure; but don't bet on it.

@EvoScale @axeln They can keep their bunkers. The rest of us still have welders, bulldozers and concrete mixers with which to ensure they have all the time in the world to enjoy them.
@axeln @EvoScale @Strandjunker several American (US) companies did business with Hitler #gm #ford #kodak #ibm #cocacola to name a few Some of their CEOs where vocal about supporting Hitler, Sloan (GM) and Ford for example
@EvoScale Just the frighteningly short time it took for the wealthiest 1%, to become a .01%, should be a clarion call for far more action.

@CountHoldem Most people have a very limited framework of just how deeply embedded the fossil fuels industry is. And now Peter Thiel is heavily investing in Argentina, further entrenching tech bros and fossil fuels, in The Global South.

Is there sanctuary anywhere now?

@Strandjunker Based on quotes of Albert Camus in a biography I am reading, he felt the same way about the acquiescence of most French citizens during the Nazi occupation of France.
@JosephMeyer @Strandjunker I’m ashamed to say that Thiel has a bolt hole in New Zealand. We certainly don’t want him here.

@Strandjunker

Especially when Americans talk big about all their Second Amendment rights to defend Freedom™.

I'm just waiting for the US to implode like Nazi Germany did.

@starraven @Strandjunker You mean by a total military defeat and foreign occupation after years of world war? I don't think we really want that with a nuclear armed state.

@Salty @Strandjunker

Fortunately, they seem willing to do it to themselves.

@Salty @starraven @Strandjunker

It won't be military this time, the US will be defeated economically by China. We're playing into our own demise and turning into Russia right now and letting China become the world's economic leader.

@Strandjunker Doomsday and D-Day... quite apropos.

@Strandjunker

and if you're wondering, fellow americans, what you can do, there's lots of things

but voting is the baseline

if you think "but the democrats suck," you're right

but if that's a bigger motivation for you, moving you not to vote, than, you know, stopping fucking fascism, then you're some sort of entitled uncaring sheltered and coddled piece of shit, aren't you?

do you understand the fucking stakes?

@benroyce @Strandjunker 40 years ago all the republicans said their candidates sucked, too. They were critiqued on not repealing Roe, business were being told what they could consider during hiring, taxes were being given away so welfare moms could live off the state. They kept voting for those iffy candidates until they got exactly what they wanted. Dems kept waiting for the perfect candidate to fix everything with a smile and a wave.

@passwordsarehard4 @Strandjunker

entitlement is killing the usa

and i'm talking about MAGA and nonvoters

the same entitlement is not at the root, the two groups are merely entitled about different things

@benroyce @Strandjunker

Also, don't forget to vote in the Primaries - and in them, pick Democrat candidates who are actually willing to stand up to fascism!

@Strandjunker I researched how the US press covered the rise of Hitler. What we're seeing today is literally the exact same response to Hitler. Certainly something will happen to stop him ...

This is one story, I have a few in the archive.

https://combattants-de-la-liberte.org/blog/history/hitler-indianapolis-times-july-3-1934-2/

Indianapolis Times on Hitler 3 July 1934

Hitler will fly to Von Hindenburg‘s home to get president‘s consent to accept resignation of vice-chancellor.

Combattants de la Liberté
@Strandjunker what is the German for “Heritage Foundation“?
@Strandjunker
The united states is not united in the slightest, it's that way on purpose, makes it easier to manipulate
@Strandjunker not an American and can confirm this sentiment.
@Strandjunker
And the reason that the Germans didn't stop Hitler was cogently covered by Nikita Kruschev at a Communist party symposium in reference to why nobody there stopped Stalin.

@WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker

Russian bloke in the audience: Why didn't you stop Stalin?

Khrushchev: WHO SAID THAT?

*Russian bloke says nothing*

Khrushchev: Now you know why.

@HollieK72 @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker

History? You will probably hark back before Khrushchev to Lenin himself.
The worst crime in this day is to defer to the status quo. It will only get us in the fangs of fascism once again.
People is guilty of their regime because they failed to stop it when they could. Full stop

@Shamhatt @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker It's a joke that could be about any dictator - Stalin, Hitler, Putin, if you just change the names and nationalities of the people speaking. It's easy to blame someone else for not stopping the dictator, not so easy to be the person who does it.
@HollieK72 @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker not sure what your point is: Trump? Putin? Khamenei? Netanyahu? All those Sheikhs in the middle East? Do you think any of this crap would have come to exist if not aided by ingrained systems of human dominance and submission?
@HollieK72 @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker And, by the way, be my guest to incarcerate all of them. We'll throw a party for sure
@HollieK72 @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker Am I asking for Iranians to go on a suicidal mission now?. No. I am only saying that there are seeding stages where population was accountable.
@HollieK72 @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker I like this theme because I love Germans, they are as progressive as you can find in this world. Conversely, you can hardly fathom the current democratic world without a Japanese infusion into it.
@HollieK72 that means that all these cultures have assimilated democracy. I am not saying this out of some dialectic grandeur. I lived my childhood in a dictatorship and I know what it took my country to become a fellow democracy: consensus. And consensus comes from the people for good or for worse.

@Shamhatt Not really sure what your point is, either. Mine was just to make the joke that is attributed to Khrushchev about why he, personally, hadn't stopped Stalin. There's also the idea that if you go back in time to shoot Hitler before he came to power, all that happens is someone else takes his place, because the conditions were right in Germany at that time. At the moment, in the USA, if Trump dies, Vance will take his place. If Putin dies, there's likely to be a power vacuum for a while.

Change has to come from the people, and at the moment the USA has chosen fascism. However, they are not alone - in the UK far right parties are gaining ground, as they are in France, Italy, and even Germany, probably most European countries at this point. Democracy is in danger in many places and we, the people, need to fight back. It isn't going to be easy, because there are vested interests in maintaining the conditions where people choose fascism instead, but it never is.

@Strandjunker these is Mr Elon click on this link to message me on my telegram channel I want to speak to you privately t.me/Elon00835

@Strandjunker

𝘈𝘣𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺💯𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴!☝️

@Strandjunker and plot twist: the antisemites are the ones actually trying to stop him.
@Strandjunker
Good question! Almost all good historians will cite many factors to account for any important event.
IMO anger & hate is the easiest methods for a politician to jump to the top of the political pyramid. The U.S. has a long history of hating immigrants and various schemes to make their lives miserable.
Also, after the end of the Cold War, the U.S. was looking around for its next enemy to justify it global reach. It's has made enemies in Latin America, Asia and Europe.

@Strandjunker You are correct...the man's insane and needs to be stopped

@Strandjunker

Germany had the same problem that America has now.

Moneyed elites funding campaigns of bigotry & buying elections.

Foreign money & support from anonymous sources poured into Nazi coffers in 1933, exploiting the financial crisis caused by the 1929 crash & the ill-advised Smoot-Hawley "beggar thy neighbor" tariffs.
