Russian bloke in the audience: Why didn't you stop Stalin?
Khrushchev: WHO SAID THAT?
*Russian bloke says nothing*
Khrushchev: Now you know why.
@HollieK72 @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker
History? You will probably hark back before Khrushchev to Lenin himself.
The worst crime in this day is to defer to the status quo. It will only get us in the fangs of fascism once again.
People is guilty of their regime because they failed to stop it when they could. Full stop
@Shamhatt Not really sure what your point is, either. Mine was just to make the joke that is attributed to Khrushchev about why he, personally, hadn't stopped Stalin. There's also the idea that if you go back in time to shoot Hitler before he came to power, all that happens is someone else takes his place, because the conditions were right in Germany at that time. At the moment, in the USA, if Trump dies, Vance will take his place. If Putin dies, there's likely to be a power vacuum for a while.
Change has to come from the people, and at the moment the USA has chosen fascism. However, they are not alone - in the UK far right parties are gaining ground, as they are in France, Italy, and even Germany, probably most European countries at this point. Democracy is in danger in many places and we, the people, need to fight back. It isn't going to be easy, because there are vested interests in maintaining the conditions where people choose fascism instead, but it never is.
