On this 82nd anniversary of D-Day, remember: The way we wonder why Germans didn’t stop Hitler is exactly how the rest of the world views Americans and Trump today.
@Strandjunker
And the reason that the Germans didn't stop Hitler was cogently covered by Nikita Kruschev at a Communist party symposium in reference to why nobody there stopped Stalin.

@WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker

Russian bloke in the audience: Why didn't you stop Stalin?

Khrushchev: WHO SAID THAT?

*Russian bloke says nothing*

Khrushchev: Now you know why.

@HollieK72 @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker

History? You will probably hark back before Khrushchev to Lenin himself.
The worst crime in this day is to defer to the status quo. It will only get us in the fangs of fascism once again.
People is guilty of their regime because they failed to stop it when they could. Full stop

@Shamhatt @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker It's a joke that could be about any dictator - Stalin, Hitler, Putin, if you just change the names and nationalities of the people speaking. It's easy to blame someone else for not stopping the dictator, not so easy to be the person who does it.
@HollieK72 @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker not sure what your point is: Trump? Putin? Khamenei? Netanyahu? All those Sheikhs in the middle East? Do you think any of this crap would have come to exist if not aided by ingrained systems of human dominance and submission?
@HollieK72 @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker And, by the way, be my guest to incarcerate all of them. We'll throw a party for sure
@HollieK72 @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker Am I asking for Iranians to go on a suicidal mission now?. No. I am only saying that there are seeding stages where population was accountable.
@HollieK72 @WellsiteGeo @Strandjunker I like this theme because I love Germans, they are as progressive as you can find in this world. Conversely, you can hardly fathom the current democratic world without a Japanese infusion into it.
@HollieK72 that means that all these cultures have assimilated democracy. I am not saying this out of some dialectic grandeur. I lived my childhood in a dictatorship and I know what it took my country to become a fellow democracy: consensus. And consensus comes from the people for good or for worse.

@Shamhatt Not really sure what your point is, either. Mine was just to make the joke that is attributed to Khrushchev about why he, personally, hadn't stopped Stalin. There's also the idea that if you go back in time to shoot Hitler before he came to power, all that happens is someone else takes his place, because the conditions were right in Germany at that time. At the moment, in the USA, if Trump dies, Vance will take his place. If Putin dies, there's likely to be a power vacuum.

Change has to come from the people, and at the moment the USA has chosen fascism. However, they are not alone - in the UK far right parties are gaining ground, as they are in France, Italy, and even Germany, probably most European countries at this point. Democracy is in danger in many places and we, the people, need to fight back. It isn't going to be easy, because there are vested interests in maintaining the conditions where people choose fascism instead, but it never is.
