#Today 11

Good day!

Hiking is a cleansing, and I was desperate.

Yesterday, the weather perfect, I hiked to the top of my special, unnamed promontory and had lunch. The trail there is faint near the summit.

The views, even on a hazy day, renewed my withering soul. I’m thankful.

Be everwell.

Your photos make me miss the west and the mountains.

@joyce Thank you, and I'm sorry, yet glad I can provide you with a bit of what you miss. The bigness, all the open sky, the conifer forests.

I grew-up on Long Island and visited the west for the first time the summer of my twelfth year. After having driven across the plains, my first view of the "west" were the Colorado mountains. I was smitten.

And of course I grew up in Colorado and then came east for a job. I never thought I'd miss the mountains, but I do.

@joyce A couple of days ago, early in the morning, I drove to pickup a prescription and had to stop at a light. At that moment, the sun climbed over the mountains to the east and caught Lolo Peak, which is covered in snow still.

I realized how often I became consumed with "stuff" and failed to look up, to appreciate where I am. I decided then to hike the next day.

When I was going to leave Wyoming, Colorado was my first choice, but Montana the more affordable option at the time.

@CA_Hawthorne

That's part of why I didn't move back when I retired: Colorado had become much too expensive, and that's where I wanted to go. I also worried about climate change and the possibility of water shortages as it grows worse. And now, I just don't have the spoons to do the work of moving.

@joyce 2,000 miles is a long way and all your concerns are valid. I'm shocked at all those flocking to Arizona.

It was only a day's drive for me back in 2013, but I couldn't make it work. On a whim, I went north. Maybe it was fate, but I stumbled upon a reasonable place with the best landlord I've ever had in a city that's expensive by Montana standards.

In defense of Montana, the people here are fighting back against the moneyed interests trying to make this a northern Colorado.
