I remember being really shocked finding out Trump won in 2024. Because I new that was a decisive dark moment in history.

On Sunday, there is a new decisive moment, when the Hungarians decide if Viktor Orbán's corrupt regime continues, or Péter Magyar takes over.

Let this time be different.

The Hungarians need a brighter future.

The world needs a brighter future.

@randahl let’s just be clear that Magyar isn’t a progressive, he used to be in the same party as Orbán and holds a lot of the same views.

This won’t magically fix things, it is fascism lite at best, we should all continue applying pressure on Hungary to change.

@DavidNielsen @randahl

we want to be free of Orban, so let's get Magyar in first

*then* apply the criticism of Magyar

not now!

Magyar is pro-EU, Orban is busy licking Putin's boots

that choice alone is a huge earthquake

you understand that

therefore:

right now, on April 9, you want to be singing the praises of Peter Magyar

right?

a little strategic intelligence please!

@benroyce @DavidNielsen @randahl We need a candidate for those who do not like either Russia or the EU. Both want to destroy traditional Europe although in different ways.

@mike805 @DavidNielsen @randahl

well thank you for the most deranged comment i've gotten all week

you're equating russia and the eu?

what the fuck brain rot is that?

@benroyce @DavidNielsen @randahl Russia is fascistic and the EU is going either Islamist or Communist or both. Not equating them, they are opposites, but in the hell or high water sense. I'd rather avoid both.

The opposite of a bad thing is not always a good thing.

@mike805 @DavidNielsen @randahl

"EU is going either Islamist or Communist or both"

mike:

please put down the crack pipe

@benroyce @DavidNielsen @randahl Demographics is destiny, and if nothing changes, the EU will be Islamic in a few decades. That is math, not politics.

They have also made a lot of dumb economic decisions, like Germany becoming dependent on Russian gas and then getting rid of its nuclear power.

Russia is worse, yes. That doesn't make the EU good. I'd like to see Eastern Europe remain independent from both.

If the EU and Russia get into a war they will want the USA to come in. We should not.

@mike805 @DavidNielsen @randahl

mike why don't you take these galaxy brain musings to Twitter where this sort of Fox News bullshit would find a wider audience

really dude, the crap you just wrote is straight from Nigel Farage's anus

why do you want to engage in far right talking points? do you really believe this fearmongering?

@benroyce @DavidNielsen @randahl We have incompatible worldviews and we aren't going to convince each other of anything. Oh well. That is life in a divided society.
@mike805 @DavidNielsen @randahl the divide between truth and hysteria is the divide between serious people and MAGA idiots
@mike805 @benroyce @DavidNielsen @randahl Heard of NATO by any chance? Your far right replacement theory is laughable claptrap and racist with it. The EU is currently experiencing a large influx (hundreds of thousands in the past year) from the US. It won't ever be American. Clearly you don't know anything about the EU and have the intelligence and ethics of your leader. Suggesting you stick to Twitter is generous. TruthSocial would be more appropriate.
@mike805 FYI I reported your comment for spreading racist conspiracy theories.

@benroyce I reported and blocked this user. Different opinions are ok — spreading racist q-anon/MAGA conspiracy theories is where I say nope.

@DavidNielsen @randahl

@benroyce @DavidNielsen @randahl
Lick Putin's boots?

Orbán licks any boot that benefits his ego and his hold on power.

Ask JD Vance.

@benroyce @randahl I will not be doing so, but I will be happy that Orbán is hopefully gone (he did do an impressive job rigging the election system, so I am not entirely sure he will actually lose, or do a Trump when he does).

I don’t prescribe to the idea that in order to not be shit, let alone actually be good, we have to first tolerate shit light.

There are surely not shit candidates the world could promote and promise good relations with, to give them a serious boost in the polls.

@DavidNielsen @randahl

the problem with your statement is every candidate possible has problems. and even if they were practically angels, simple human gossip would find something, anything, about them that could be criticized, and reduce them to "shit lite"

essentially: in life, yes, your only options, now, in all history, and forever more, is between shit and shit lite

and if you don't make a choice, you only guarantee shit

while if you consistently choose, you iterate to better

@benroyce @DavidNielsen @randahl In addition to this I think most people do not much care for foreigners to "advise" or "endorse" candidates in their countries elections.

@martinlentink @DavidNielsen @randahl

you're talking about this:

" #Orban’s Chances of Winning #Hungary Election Drop After JD #Vance Rally"

https://www.newsweek.com/viktor-orban-hungary-election-jd-vance-rally-11804123

so it's the same as #trump saying stupid shit about #canada, helping #poilievre lose to #carney

so while #europe is right to be bothered by populist right wing assholes from outside the #eu coming and messing in european #politics, europe can take some solace that the move tends to backfire

Orban’s Chances of Winning Hungary Election Drop After JD Vance Rally

Orban is one of President Donald Trump's key European political allies.

Newsweek
@benroyce @martinlentink @DavidNielsen @randahl the Vance effect, basically the Streisand effect in politics.
@benroyce @martinlentink @DavidNielsen @randahl first past the post and all that. Fingers crossed.

@benroyce @martinlentink @DavidNielsen @randahl

Everyone hates Vance even maga

@samiamsam @martinlentink @DavidNielsen @randahl

the tech bros chose him

and i'm glad, in the end, all of their money for influence in maga land only wound up harming maga

@DavidNielsen @randahl

Yet the people will be better off with Orbán gone and as such they will hopefully not choose to shoot themselves in the foot, what a novel idea.
