Magyar Péter's party (Tisza) won with a historic landslide.
I am overjoyed that Orbán and his gang are out.

But at the same time I'm waiting.

Waiting to see the book bans lifted.
For trans rights to be reinstated.
For the child protection system to be fixed.
For queer people to be allowed to adopt again.
For the child traffic rings to be prosecuted.

We handed a center-right party absolute majority.

I really, really hope they will do better.

I don't deceive myself that #Magyar is going to usher in a glorious new era. As far as I can tell, on the US scale he'd be a standard issue pre-Trump Republican. But he does seem committed to democracy (I hope I'm right about that) and he's pro #EU, and at least not hostile to #Ukraine. Which right now seems like plenty.

Bisschen Erwartungsmanagement: Peter Magyar und seine Tisza-Partei stehen nicht für progressive Politik. Magyar ist ein Konservativer mit entsprechenden Ansichten zu Familie und Geschlechterrollen. A huge lift to American voters that Trump, like Orban, is arranging his own defeat.
