This is like watching a slow motion train wreck. Except there's no physical momentum involved. It can be stopped simply by stopping it.

Yet it lumbers on toward disaster.

He literally told us that the objective is to “wipe out their whole civilization”. If that isn’t a crime against humanity, the most fundamental of war crimes, nothing is.

Virtually no one wants this. It will accomplish nothing. We must stop it.

@mattblaze But no one is stopping it. It's just rolling on. I feel like little parts of me keep screaming and dying.
@mattblaze And yet nothing can be done without his party, which has clearly signaled that it supports him. "We" are left powerless.

@noahm @mattblaze It's not true though, Americans could stop it. Or, at the very least could have. A general strike, bring everything to a halt. Stop the machine, and then fight it.

We've done it before, but we forgot... or were memory-holed. We used to be a labor nation, we used to strike and stop the machines.

We invented May Day for fuck's sake, in Chicago, with Mother Jones and Lucy parsons, the IWW and so on. and then the ruling class memory-holed it, and we forgot what we could do.

@quinn @noahm @mattblaze I feel like late capitalist atomization plus hyper-individualized bread & circuses (mostly circuses) has succeeded in a way that’s like some bizarro dream mashup of Huxley, Orwell, Bradbury dystopias which is even trippier than they could’ve imagined, because a main feature is how mundane and “ordinary” everything still seems on the surface, and how little reaction there is with any real impact.

THE PEOPLE UNDER THE BOMBS ARE

OUT IN THE STREETS.

THE PEOPLE ABOVE THE BOMBS ARE

SHUT IN THEIR HOMES.

HISTORY KEEPS TRACK OF ITS OWN COWARDICE.

@mattblaze

Even the threat itself, made by a leader etc. during war, could make Trump criminally liable, even if it’s not acted upon. Might stop him coming to the UK at least. (I expect he’ll retire to Russia anyway)

@jmeosbn @mattblaze If we tried to charge any American politicians or officials with war crimes, the Home Secretary and the Prime Minister, along with some senior civil servants, would have sanctions applied by the American regime, and the American tech giants would be forced to deny those individuals access to their apps on their Android/iPhone mobile phones; to email, Office, and SharePoint if they're using M365; and to AI (the UK Government loves AI).

@mattblaze

Even insinuating this is a crime... and also do not think this will go unpunished. There will be revenge from Iran.

@mattblaze there will be millions of Americans who actually want this & always hoped this would happen if they voted for him, a huge majority of which will be Christians, this is Trumps stubborn 30% supportive base, anywhere between 15-25 million Americans have been praying for this...

@mattblaze

The only way he can wipe out an entire civilization at this point is to wipe out all humans.

There are Iranians all over the world. There are Palestinians all over the world.

This does not end in Iran.

@mattblaze i know i know.
Give him a peace price or something.
Oh wait, that didn't work.

@mattblaze the only way to stop this is when the people collectively rise up & fight back by any means necessary. stop working, stop buying & stop going to their propaganda factories they call schools. occupy parliament, congress, council & state buildings. #educate #organise #resist

nobody in power is going to save us, it's up to you, me & all of us to save each other. they're all protecting the system of capitalism & hierarchy because they don't want to lose their positions of power & wealth.

impeachment, elections, congress, the constitution & (international) law are all instruments of control over us, a carrot on a stick we'll never reach & which always works out in the billionaire class' favour.

most of them are seriously mentally ill with #clusterBPDs & #psychopathy in the megalomania phase. they should be sectioned & do forced labour for minimal food & shelter for the rest of their lives, and all their assets, resources & property taken off them. that should be redistributed across the globe to who needs it most.

and then we have to figure out a completely different way of organising life on earth. the first nation way. the natural way. in respect & humility to our mother earth & all who live here.

@mattblaze dozens of conductors on the train frantically screaming "If nobody stops it we'll crash!" while staring at the brakes from a distance
@brad @mattblaze 535 conductors definitely counts as "dozens".

@brad @willyyam @mattblaze

"If only congress was awake to witness what's happening!"

@dusk @willyyam @mattblaze thank god the bill of rights isn't alive to see this

@willyyam @brad @mattblaze

the #1 thing that makes me enraged is watching someone not do their job. to that end I've had to filter anything version of the word "democrat" to save my sanity and reduce the possibility of prison time.

@mattblaze The terrifying thing is that I can think of at least three things you could be referring to.

@mattblaze Ever seen two guys get into a bar fight, both desperately wanting someone to "hold them back" before they "kick that dude's ass" while being utterly incapable of doing any such ass kicking?

This is that. If they were going to go nuclear, they wouldn't be throwing out all of these arbitrary deadlines, they'd just do it. They're shouting "HOLD ME BACK, BRO" but on geopolitical scale.

It's incredibly fucking reckless, pointless, and unnecessary.

@Legit_Spaghetti except the they both CAN kick ass. It just involves burning down the bar.
@mattblaze Yes, that's where the analogy breaks down. I guess it's like two assholes each holding a hand grenade in a crowded bar? Anyway, this whole thing is fucking unnecessary, like you said.

@Legit_Spaghetti @mattblaze
What's unnecessary about a narcissist threatening the world with nuclear death?

Isn't he getting our attention‽

@mattblaze "I've led a soldier's life, and I've never seen anything as brutally clear as this. It's as if I can actually see the blue troops in one long, bloody moment, goin' up the long slope to the stony top. As if it were already done... already a memory. An odd... set... stony quality to it. As if tomorrow has already happened and there's nothin' you can do about it."

I think social interactions among 8 billion people and the millions of groups, institutions, cities, provinces, states, ethnic groups, etc. has something akin to a momentum as we each try to gauge the possible actions of others with more power than us.
USA might be something else then what I thought all of my adult life.
@mattblaze Oddly like Gavrilo Princip sitting in a café in Sarajevo 1914 and OMG, here comes the Arch Duke again.
