gail.com FAQ

I was made redundant a couple weeks ago. From a school I’d worked at for 15 years, They gave us 5 days notice

Fortunately, I’m a member of a union. As were all the other teachers.

Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) were with us every step of the way. They made sure it was all above board, kept our dodgy bosses in check, & even helped us negotiate an enhanced redundancy package

So if you haven’t already, join a union

Here's my cat wearing the union badge

If SQL is pronounced "sequel" then surely DNS is pronounced "Dennis"?

@robinadams @bloor I started out calling it "My Squirrel" before I'd ever heard anyone say "sequel," and that is how it will forever be in my head.

"I have to run a squirrel query."

"I'm having trouble running a join on these squirrel tables."

It's objectively better this way.

A lot of people in tech want me to produce more work but get upset if I talk about what it costs me to produce work, I really hope eventually we can get a little bit better at accepting that social, cultural, psychological work is real work
Still fresh cheesebags?

I wish the MLB was run by people who cared about baseball.

But then, I wish the government was run by people who cared about the governed, and look where that’s gotten me.

Sometimes your the pillow, other time, the kitten.

Just one trans woman's opinion, but I hold that the ideal way to recover from accidentally misgendering a person and being called out is to simply repeat the sentence, corrected. No apologies (or just a quick "sorry" or "pardon" if it flows), no justifications. It happens. We get it. Nobody's looking to shame anyone, only correct a mistake before it perpetuates.

A: "And then he told me that he wanted to..."
B: "They"
A: "And then they told me that they wanted to meet me at this coffee shop..."

On of the more surprising things about starting Adderall at the tender age of 49 is that I changed the music I listen to while writing SQL, and code in general.

Used to be, it was always ambient and space music. Soothing, dreamy, beautiful.

Now? Punk. Classic and new punk rock. The genre shift is freakin' wild, but I love it. And it's a great time to listen to some excellent, filthy punk tunes.

And for that, there's Radio Antenne Punk Rock.
