🎺 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT.

If a post doesn't apply to you, there is no need to tell the poster that it doesn't apply to you. No one cares. They aren't keeping a list of who it doesn't apply to.

If someone posts "Buckle up when you drive" and you don't drive... you don't need to reply.

If someone says "Bake the bread at 375f" and you don't bake... you don't need to reply.

Follow this simple rule and you can help make the Fedi a better place for everyone!

Thank you.

@Mrfunkedude it's true. and there are many times i type out a reply to something and then i delete it because it's a pointless thing to say, or if it is worth saying, it might not be worth replying and so i just send my own toot without bothering others.
@arrrg @Mrfunkedude Typing out a reply only to discard it before posting is good therapy.
@Mrfunkedude @baronvonj I don’t follow rules, so this post doesn’t apply to me.
@josh0 @baronvonj is it a rule that you don't follow rules?
@Mrfunkedude @baronvonj it is, but I don’t follow that one, either!
@josh0
It's rules all the way down
@Mrfunkedude

I have never followed a rule.
That is my rule.

Do you follow?
I don't!

@Mrfunkedude @josh0 @baronvonj

@Mrfunkedude but this doesn’t apply to me
@Mrfunkedude @64bithero I was going to reply that the OP doesn’t apply to me (I’m intransigent but not original), but then I saw you bake bread at 375F. You monster! How could you? Have you no respect!?

@Mrfunkedude

Rules, rules, everywhere there's rules
Blockin up my feed an breakin my mind
Do this! Don't do that!
Can't you reeeeeead the rules!

@Mrfunkedude
They've coined a term for it. Bean Soup Theory
@notsle @Mrfunkedude that's a very instructing post ! It's too bad that I just can't quote it without ritualistically mentioning that I kind of already knew that (but in a more intuitive, subconscious way)

@notsle neat!

#Alt4you Short video by Angel Mendoza (then of yahoo news) explaining that a comment "what if I don't like beans" on a 2023 Tiktok about how to make bean soup started a discourse on why some people don't understand that a particular piece of online content is not targeted to them. He mentions egocentrism, media literacy, and online etiquette as facets, and the visual shows headlines about individualism and me-ism.

@Mrfunkedude

@Mrfunkedude Mute/block functions work well too.
@Mrfunkedude I don’t police the fediverse, hence I will not reply to this.
@Mrfunkedude But Linux.
@MrAndrewD @Mrfunkedude I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
@Mrfunkedude Agreed with one exception 😉 : If the post has a statement like:
"<Thing> applys to all <members of certain group>"
Then i find it valid to reply with something like:
"I beg to differ, i am a <member of certain group> and <Thing> does not apply to me."
Since this would be part of the discussion.
@Mrfunkedude This isn’t really relevant to me because I don’t reply to posts. /s

@Mrfunkedude

{insert reply guy bullshit here, completely missing the point}

@Mrfunkedude

I don't read posts, so this doesn't apply to me. 😆

@Mrfunkedude Why should I care? I don't ever reply to.. oh wait \s
@Mrfunkedude what if i dont know how to read
@scattapilla well, who’s gonna teach me then?
@Mrfunkedude i don't reply to things but i'm sure this post is very helpful to people who do!
@Mrfunkedude
Every post on Facebook "seeking advice" gets 400+ comments explaining the same answer ... 🙄
On Mastodon people seem to actually read comments first before answering (so less comments per post) 🙂👍

@Mrfunkedude

This post doesn't apply to me, but I just loathe people trying to tell me what I can or cannot do, so I felt the need to reply.

@Mrfunkedude what? This doesnt apply to me! Outrageous !!
@Mrfunkedude
Totally. Everybody should keep their opinions to themselves. Especially if somebody makes statements supporting a fascist regime. Or if somebody makes claims that ivermectin cures all ailments. And when people make racist remarks, too.

@Mrfunkedude

I do not see much of this nonsense, but then again, I am not on your instance. Hint.

@Mrfunkedude I generally try to avoid telling the internet what to do
@Mrfunkedude Me rn, resisting the urge to ironically post that this doesn't apply to me because I never do this (I couldn't resist the urge but I did it in a self-aware way so it's okay)
i don't even like harry potter, dude
