Genuine question: why is there not more of a movement to get rid of Trump in the US? Why is it not possible to impeach him? Will there be mass protest at any point? #Trump #IranWar
@pvonhellermannn
It's hard to get rid of a 'Jesus'
@Uhege @pvonhellermannn it wasn’t very hard. As far as I understand Easter.

@pvonhellermannn How to get rid of Trump when the legal system has been so infiltrated by his supporters, unless you're prepared to be violent?

I'm starting to wonder if a lot of the folk who might have done something about it are emigrating

@pvonhellermannn

a descriptive answer, not an endorsement: a lot of people disapprove of this war but "starting wars" is "just something the US does" and i don't see that alone as tipping the scales for him, tho i believe fallout will mount

there have been mass protests. mass civil disobedience is more elusive. IMO a lot of people (def congress, who are bought & paid for) are waiting for midterms, without confronting that the "normal" political system can't unwind this, it delivered this

@inquiline thank you! All this makes a lot of sense. And apologies for completely missing the protests!
@pvonhellermannn @inquiline watch for the next big one on 28/3. And follow @heidilifeldman here. There are more

@pvonhellermannn

sorry, i may have been unclear: there have been big protests against his policies and his presidency; the ones against the war per se have been smaller. but there is going to be another mass protest next wknd and it will include antiwar

the problem is really what/whether the big one-day protests are building towards. i think they're important in some ways and ambivalent in others. but i think this one will be the biggest yet, too--people are VERY mad about ICE, Iran, Epstein

@pvonhellermannn

also there are members of the House trying to impeach him:
https://freespeechforpeople.org/140-members-of-congress-vote-to-advance-articles-of-impeachment-against-trump/

another major issue is the mainstream commercial media is not doing a good job (or: it's doing the job it's supposed to do but it doesn't help us)

140 Members of Congress Vote to Advance Articles of Impeachment Against Trump - Free Speech For People

On December 11, 2025, 140 members of the US House of Representatives voted to advance Congressman Al Green’s articles of impeachment against President Trump.

Free Speech For People

@pvonhellermannn

i'd actually put odds at "low but greater than zero that something tips" that the House gets a majority vote on impeaching. the problems then become the Senate; and if it somehow proceeded from there, then Pres JD Vance. it's terrible!

@inquiline thank you for clarifying all this and my apologies in turn - i wasn’t at all clear in how i phrased it. I did mean protests in context of/about the Iran war, but it wasn’t at all clear in my wording. Also: not being reproachful or accusatory! Realised later that that is probably how i came across

@pvonhellermannn

because it was you i did not take it that way! i was going to bed last night when i posted, but trying to answer genuinely and thoroughly because there are a lot of moving, or rather stuck parts here, hope it doesn't seem defensive cos not meant that way. in addition to this country being a semi-fascist evil empire to begin with, we're currently living downstream of a decades-long project to swing all the levers towards minority rule. he's v unpopular & not v competent AND YET

@inquiline ❤️ thank you for this. I am so sorry, honestly. Also know that you have been living through an insane March heatwave this past week, on top of everything else..

@pvonhellermannn

❤️ thanks. where i am the weather got better which is immensely helpful, but the medium and long term prospects are 🌡️ 🔥 😭

last thing: he's v unpopular but still more popular than he should be. for that i blame vile deep-seated supremacies, and media ecologies. i do think the economy is going to go south tho and then more people will become even more enraged. i think he's in office till no longer useful, i guess? then what... liberation does not run thru the D party, for sure

@pvonhellermannn Because he's the fall guy. Those who control Trump (his funders, Netanyahu, Epstein class) want the Greater Israel project, building 3rd Temple, ushering in Messiah, and the AI digital surveillance state in the Western hemisphere which will result from it. They must destroy to rebuild [This]. These ppl aren't loyal to a party, it's cross parties. For the global level of destruction that this takes, Trump is the fall guy, so he stays in power until all is destroyed

@Rastal @pvonhellermannn

To more directly and accurately answer the questions asked, it's because most people in the U.S. are willfully deluding themselves that what's clearly happening, isn't, because to acknowledge our awful reality would require direct personal action and sacrifice, which most citizens reject.

We're a nation of people who choose to live in a fantasy of "it's not that bad" or "the system will stop him", rather than to do all that must be done.

We're mostly either lazy cowards, or gleeful participants, as we're confronted with the relentless horrors of authoritarian rule, in general, and fascism in particular.

It's how we've long been systematically conditioned and worn down over the brutal history of this fundamentally evil nation literally built on genocide, slavery, and the utter subjugation of those dependent upon wages for survival.

We're the near-perfect capitalist state, and this is how we end.

@pvonhellermannn

I fear the only way to stop the Iran war is to get rid of him and if we don't he'll end pressing the big red button

@pvonhellermannn I've seen US people getting frustrated by hearing this question - apparently there are massive protests but they aren't being covered by the media or shared a lot here. We saw them in Minnesota, but it seems to have gone quiet again. But maybe the movement isn't as big as it might be elsewhere

@pvonhellermannn There has already been the largest mass protest in US history, covering all 50 states, and this will be happening again this coming Saturday. A better question might be, how come so many people haven't even heard about the growing US resistance movement?

Trump can't be impeached at present because the Republicans control all branches of government.

@ApostateEnglishman Yes, was just replying this to someone else who pointed out that there have actually been mass protests: I completely missed them. Apologies for this! But as you say, that’s notable in itself. I have seen nothing at all here (could be my fault for not searching) or anywhere else
@pvonhellermannn @ApostateEnglishman it is covered on Dutch main stream news. Not where you live??

@pvonhellermannn To the best of my understanding:

I Roughly 25% of the American population are Evangelicals and one of the largest Trump supporter groups.

II We saw mass protests already. We witnessed Trump deploying ICE. He would not hesitate to deploy more and even harder hitting.

III As for impeachment, the setup is there to protect the presidency. A. Johnson impeached & acquitted, B. Clinton imp & acq, D. Trump imp & acq fucking twice!

etc.

@pvonhellermannn P.S. crystal ball on: Northstream 2 opens again!
@pvonhellermannn because white supremacist capitalist cisheteropatriarchy gave rise to the whole situation

@pvonhellermannn don’t they try and fail at this already then put him back in office?
@justincrozer Yes - I realise i was unclear. I meant: since Trump started the Iran war.
@pvonhellermannn or at very least call into question if he has the mental capacity for the responsibility.
The people who have the authority to get him out are his cronies. More than half of the house and senate are republicans. They value obedience, and so far not enough will step up to impeach. We had a few cross over to support releasing the Epstein files...
His cabinet could use the 25th amendment to the constitution to get him out for mental incapacity. But they seem scared of him, and some are also criminals he is protecting.
We have had millions out protesting several times, with one more scheduled on March 28. We're all spread out too much. I'm over 4700 km from the White House. He's only worried about people who can hurt him in person.
RN I don't think we can coordinate enough for a proper gen strike.
